Barcelona City Camp for Teenagers, with a Day at PortAventura

Barcelona is presented by the operator as prosperous, dynamic and full of contrasts — a city where culture, communication and entertainment are part of ordinary daily life, with a pleasant climate all year and the beach and the mountains both close at hand. The programme is built as themed days rather than a single itinerary: the architecture of Gaudi, a day on bicycles along the coastline, a city game, a day given to street art with a local association, and a closing day at the PortAventura theme park.

The price published by the operator covers accommodation, meals, the activities and excursions of the published programme, and insurance. Zigo Tours takes out cover for every participant — assistance and repatriation, individual accident, third-party liability, legal costs and baggage — and advances medical expenses during the stay. Travel is by direct flight, Paris to Barcelona and back. Pre-travel from regional cities can be arranged by the operator's transport department; it is quoted case by case and is not part of the published price.

The group is housed at a hostel in Barcelona, which is also where breakfasts and some of the evening meals are taken.

Breakfasts and some dinners are taken at the hostel. Lunch is a picnic or snacks while the group is out, and the other evenings are spent in small local restaurants. The meals the group prepares are cooked by the young people themselves, each taking a turn.

The Gaudi day takes in the Sagrada Família, Casa Milà and Park Güell. The bike day follows the five kilometres of city coastline, with room for an improvised game of beach soccer. A city game sends the group around the landmarks and into contact with the people who live there. An artistic day is given over to the street art of Barcelona, run with a local association. The stay closes at PortAventura, which the operator describes as offering more than thirty rides and a hundred shows a day.

The stay is based at a hostel in the city rather than on a campus. The group moves around Barcelona on public transport, and reaches the PortAventura theme park by train, about an hour away. Supervision is by a qualified director and activity leaders, one adult for every eight participants.
