GV Malta's Residential Camp runs on a self-contained campus in the residential area of Tal-Virtu' in Rabat, a local secondary school that the school takes over for the summer. Teenagers aged 9 to 16 live, study and play inside the same walled premises: classrooms with interactive screens, bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a dining hall, an auditorium, a turfed football ground, two indoor gyms and a woodland area used for bonfire nights. The gate is locked in the evening and staff supervise around the clock. Mdina, the medieval capital of Malta, is a short walk away, and the leisure programme takes campers to beaches, Valletta, Comino and the Three Cities.

More about this camp

GV Malta's Residential Camp is an English summer programme for boys and girls aged 9 to 16, run on a self-contained campus in the residential area of Tal-Virtu' in Rabat. The site is a local secondary school that the language centre takes over for the summer: classrooms, bedrooms, the dining hall and the sports areas all sit inside one set of premises enclosed by boundary walls, with a gate locked in the evening. Nothing about the day involves a commute, which is unusual among camps in Malta and is the main practical reason parents choose this format. The teaching part of the package is twenty lessons a week, taught Monday to Friday in mixed-nationality classes with an average of twelve students and a maximum of sixteen. Lessons of forty-five minutes cover speaking, listening, reading and writing, together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Each week is built around a theme such as Media and Fame or Science and Technology; the theme runs through the lessons and through a group project that students present to their peers at the end of the week. Students are placed by English level and by age after an online placement test taken once the booking is made, and teachers can move a student up or down a level during the first days. Afternoons and evenings belong to the leisure programme, which runs from Monday to Friday with an activity after lunch and another after dinner, and expands into full-day excursions at the weekend. Campers swim at Golden Bay, paddle-board and kayak, snorkel, play beach volleyball and abseil; they also visit Valletta by day and by night, the Three Cities, Mdina and the catacombs of Rabat, and take the boat to Comino. Quieter evenings are given over to talent shows, karaoke, movie nights in the auditorium and bonfire nights in the woodland area on the campus. Accommodation is on the campus itself. Rooms are single or shared by two to three students, each with an ensuite bathroom and a fan. Three meals a day are prepared on site by the kitchen team and served in the dining hall, with a salad bar and a rotation of Maltese and Mediterranean dishes; special diets can be arranged if the request is made early. Activity leaders and camp staff supervise around the clock, and the package also covers airport transfers on arrival and departure and travel and medical insurance. The camp is booked by the week, with a minimum stay of one week and arrivals and departures on Saturdays or Sundays through the summer season. The two options in the catalogue differ only in the room: one is priced for a shared room, the other for a single room. Rabat itself sits inland, away from the busy tourist strips on the coast, and Mdina, the medieval capital of the island, is a short walk from the gate. Availability, dates and prices may change quickly. Please always confirm details directly with the camp provider before making travel arrangements.
