About

About the Course

Ski sessions with instructors of the French national ski school (ESF) run through the week: learning to glide, to brake and to turn, then the star test at the end of the stay, where each child earns an ourson or a star according to level. Outside the sessions the camp leaders take their groups back onto the pistes at their own pace. Ski equipment and a helmet are provided.

What’s Included

The stay covers full board at the chalet, accommodation, the ESF ski sessions, ski equipment and helmet, the ice rink outing, the snow activities and evening programme, and the visit to the resort and village. Travel from a departure city is an option priced separately; children can also be brought directly to the centre. The stay runs from a minimum of twenty-five participants.

Accommodation

The chalet stands at the foot of the gondolas in Valloire, at about 1 430 m. Children sleep in rooms of four to eight beds, with washrooms close by rather than in the room. The building holds dining rooms and a store for skis and boots.

Meal Plan

Meals are prepared on site by the centre cook, with regional dishes on the menu, and are served in the chalet dining rooms.

Activities & Excursions

Around the chalet the snow is the playground: sledging, races between friends, snowman building and a large snowball fight. The week also holds an outing to the ice rink for beginners and confident skaters alike, a torchlight descent by the ESF instructors after dark, and a walk through the resort and village with a hot chocolate. Evenings bring shows, storytelling, team games, themed nights and a party.

Facilities

The chalet has dining rooms and a dedicated store for skis and boots, and stands directly at the foot of the gondolas, so the slopes are reached on foot. Valloire links to Valmeinier and opens the Galibier-Thabor area and its 160 km of pistes.

Camp Experience

A week of skiing in a Savoie village resort for children of primary-school age, in a chalet at the foot of the lifts, where the ESF sessions are the backbone of the day and the snow around the centre fills the rest of it. One adult supervises eight children, and the team includes a qualified camp director and a first-aid holder. The group is about thirty-two.

Daily supervised ski sessions with ESF instructors, ending with the star test and an ourson or star badge according to level. Ski equipment and helmet are provided by the organiser.

There are no classroom lessons — the week is built around daily ski sessions with instructors of the French national ski school (ESF). Children learn by doing: gliding, braking and turning on the slopes, with the week ending in a star test where each child earns an ourson or a star according to level. Outside the sessions, camp leaders take their groups back onto the pistes at their own pace. Ski equipment and a helmet are provided. The rest of the programme — sledging, snow games, an ice rink outing, a torchlight descent and evening activities — is run by the camp team. One adult supervises eight children, with a qualified camp director and a first-aid holder on the team.

Learning to ski and gaining a first ski badge on the Galibier-Thabor slopes, for children aged six to twelve.

More about this camp

Valloire is a village resort in the Maurienne valley of Savoie, at the foot of the Galibier and Telegraphe passes. Linked with Valmeinier, it opens the Galibier-Thabor area and its 160 km of pistes for every level, while keeping the life of a working village. The chalet stands directly at the foot of the gondolas, so the slopes are reached on foot. Ski sessions with instructors of the French national ski school run through the week. Children learn to glide, to brake and to turn, and the stay ends with the star test, where each child earns an ourson or a star according to level. Outside the sessions the camp leaders take their groups back onto the pistes at their own pace, and ski equipment and a helmet are provided, so nothing has to be hired or carried. Around the chalet the snow becomes the playground: sledging, races between friends, snowman building, a large snowball fight. The week also holds an outing to the ice rink, where beginners and confident skaters share the ice, and after dark a torchlight descent watched from below as the instructors come down the piste. There is time for a walk through the resort and village, a hot chocolate and a souvenir to take home. Evenings are run by the team, with shows, storytelling, team games, themed nights and a party. Children sleep in rooms of four to eight beds, with washrooms close by. Meals are cooked on site by the centre cook, with regional dishes on the menu, and served in the chalet dining rooms, which also hold a store for skis and boots. The group is about thirty-two participants, with one adult for every eight; the team includes a qualified camp director and a leader holding the French first-aid certificate.
