A residential ski stay for 12 to 17 year olds in Évolène, in the Swiss Val d'Hérens, run by Aroéven Caen - Normandie for the Fédération des Aroéven. The group is housed in a wooden chalet between the village of Évolène and Les Haudères, with mountain views over the Cervin and the Dent d'Hérens. Every day the animateurs run ski workshops grouped by ability, and the rest of the day is given to relaxed skiing and exploring the Évolène and Arolla ski areas. Departures onto the slopes are staggered from around nine in the morning and local shuttles serve the lifts. Late afternoons, after the goûter, bring sledging, snow games, walks in the village, board games or rest, and the evening programme is planned together with the young people themselves.

About

About the Course

Skiing is taught and practised in small groups. Each day the Aroéven animateurs run ski workshops arranged by ability, so beginners and confident skiers are coached separately. The remainder of the day is given to relaxed skiing and to exploring the terrain with the team rather than to formal lessons, which suits a first mountain holiday as well as a return visit.

What’s Included

The stay is sold as a package for one week, departing from Caen with return coach travel included. Accommodation in the chalet and the activity programme are part of the package. Travel insurance is offered separately and is not part of the package price. A health record form is required before departure.

Accommodation

The group stays at Chalet Le Camp, a functional, fully equipped wooden chalet between the village of Évolène and Les Haudères, looking out at the mountains. It takes a maximum of thirty-six people, so the whole group is housed together rather than split across buildings. Shuttles from the chalet serve the ski lifts.

Meal Plan

The operator does not publish the meal arrangements for this stay. What it does set out is the daily rhythm around them: skiers come off the slopes in the late afternoon and the goûter, the French afternoon snack, marks the move from the ski day into the evening programme. Meal details should be confirmed with the organiser before booking.

Activities & Excursions

Skiing in small ability groups with the animateurs is the core of the week, across the linked ski areas of Évolène and Arolla. Away from the pistes the group sledges, plays in the snow, walks down into the village and visits locally. Evenings are built with the young people rather than for them, so the programme shifts with what the group wants, and board games and quiet time are part of it.

Facilities

The chalet is a self-contained base for the group, equipped for a residential stay and set between Évolène and Les Haudères with mountain views. Local shuttles link it to the lifts of the Évolène and Arolla ski areas, so the skiing is reached without a daily transfer by coach.

Camp Experience

This is a colonie de vacances in the French tradition, run by Aroéven Caen - Normandie for the Fédération des Aroéven, an education federation attached to the state school system. Groups are led by qualified animateurs working to a published educational project, and the young people share in planning the evenings. For a twelve to seventeen year old it is a week of skiing in the Val d'Hérens with a group of peers, under the Cervin and the Dent d'Hérens.

Fédération des Aroéven

The Fédération des Aroéven is a French non-profit education federation — Fédération des Œuvres Éducatives et de Vacances de l'Éducation Nationale — recognised as an organisation of public utility. It works as a complementary educational association of the French state school system, as a youth and popular-education federation, and as a movement for pedagogical research and practice. Through its regional Aroéven associations it runs residential holiday stays for children and teenagers in France and abroad, in the mountains, in the countryside and in European cities, alongside BAFA and BAFD youth-leader training and school trips. Each stay is organised by one of the regional associations, while booking and payment for all of them are handled centrally by the federation on its own site. Groups are led by qualified animateurs and the educational project is published by the federation.

More about this camp

Ski en Colo at Évolène is a French colonie de vacances in the Swiss Valais, organised by Aroéven Caen - Normandie for the Fédération des Aroéven — an education federation attached to the French state school system and recognised as an organisation of public utility. The group of twelve to seventeen year olds travels together by coach from Caen on a night journey, with pick-up at Rouen and Paris available on request, and is housed in Chalet Le Camp, a wooden chalet of thirty-six places between the village of Évolène and Les Haudères, with the mountains in view from the windows. Skiing is organised rather than taught to a syllabus: every day the animateurs run workshops grouped by ability, so a first-time skier and a confident one are coached apart, and the rest of the day goes to skiing for pleasure and discovering the linked Évolène and Arolla domains with the team. Departures onto the snow are staggered from around nine in the morning and local shuttles carry the group to the lifts. The late afternoon, after the goûter, belongs to whatever the group wants — luge, snow games, a walk in the village, a local visit, board games or rest — and the evening programme is planned together with the young people, which is the part that makes a colonie different from a ski course. Group leaders are qualified animateurs working to the federation's published educational project. Travel insurance is quoted separately from the stay and a health record form is required before departure.
