A themed residential camp for 10-13 year olds who want to build and program robots. Campers learn the basics of soldering and take an electronic build of their own home, assemble and program a Lego Mindstorms Robot Inventor set, code step by step with a micro:bit nano-computer and a Makey Makey controller, and meet Loona, an AI-driven robot dog. A full day at the Futuroscope theme park and a bowling outing are included. Supervision is one adult for every five children.

About

About the Course

Workshop time is given to robotics. Campers start with the basics of soldering and build an electronic object of their own to take home - an eight-day stay covers one soldering kit. They then choose one of the five forms of the Lego Mindstorms Robot Inventor set, assemble its 949 pieces and program it through the Scratch-based Robot Inventor app. Coding continues with the micro:bit nano-computer and its built-in sensors, extended with components and driven by a Makey Makey kit used as a controller. A discovery workshop is built around Loona, an AI-driven robot dog the campers talk to and set tasks for.

What’s Included

The stay price covers accommodation, meals, all activities and the included excursions. Travel to and from the centre is the only supplement the operator prices separately: campers may be brought directly to the centre at no charge, or join a supervised group departure by coach or train from a listed city.

Accommodation

The Bouille-Saint-Paul holiday centre sits in a shaded, green park in the Deux-Sevres. Campers sleep in rooms of four to nine beds with washbasins, with sanitary facilities close by.

Meal Plan

Meals are provided at the centre and are covered by the stay price.

Activities & Excursions

Beyond the workshops: a full day at the Futuroscope theme park, where a humanoid robot greets visitors at the entrance and giant robot arms carry riders through one of the attractions; a bowling outing; and multi-activities, team sports and wide games at the centre.

Facilities

The centre has a multisport pitch, activity rooms, a common room with table football and table tennis, and a dedicated computer room. The grounds are large enough for wide games.

Camp Experience

Supervision is one adult for every five children. Leaders are recruited with a scientific background - teachers or students in physics and technology - with solid knowledge of computing and electronics and a personal interest in robotics. The team runs a photo blog on a secure site so families can follow the stay day by day, as far as the connection at the centre allows.

More about this camp

Les Robots is one of the themed stays run by Telligo, a brand of the UCPA group. It is designed for 10-13 year olds with an interest in robots, electronics and how machines are made to do things. The workshop strand starts with the basics of soldering: with a pair of pliers, wire, batteries and a soldering iron, each camper assembles an electronic object and takes it home. An eight-day stay covers one soldering project. Campers then build the Lego Mindstorms Robot Inventor set - 949 pieces, five possible forms including the assistant Charlie, the guard Blast and the four-legged Gelo - and program it through the Scratch-based Robot Inventor app. Coding goes on with a micro:bit nano-computer, written step by step, using its built-in sensors or added components to turn it into a detector or a vehicle, with a Makey Makey kit wired up as the controller. A discovery workshop is built around Loona, an AI-driven robot dog the campers talk to and set tasks for. The week includes a full day at the Futuroscope theme park, where a humanoid robot greets visitors at the entrance, and a bowling outing, alongside multi-activities, team sports and wide games at the centre. The centre is set in a shaded park with a multisport pitch, activity rooms, a common room with table football and table tennis, and a dedicated computer room. Campers sleep in rooms of four to nine beds. Supervision is one adult for every five children, and the leaders combine activity-leading experience with a scientific background in physics, technology, computing and electronics. Families follow the stay through a photo blog on a secure site.
