About

About the Course

Classes run Monday to Friday mornings and total 16.5 hours a week. Students choose intensive French, English or German, taught by native or bilingual teachers in small classes at levels A1 to C1, or one of the two science tracks: the Fun Science Program, built on hands-on laboratory experiments and practical projects, and the Science Preparation Program, which covers physics, mathematics and chemistry as preparation for the Swiss Matura, the French Baccalaureate, university studies and EPFL. Both science programmes are taught in English. A language course may be combined with either science programme within the same weekly tuition.

What’s Included

The boarding package covers tuition, full board accommodation in the school's boarding house, snacks and drinks, up to 14 activities a week with their transport, accident and health insurance, weekly laundry and dry cleaning, the registration fee, supervision and the Lemania shuttle to and from Geneva airport on arrival and departure.

Accommodation

Boarders live in Ecole Lemania's own boarding house in the centre of Lausanne, on two separate floors, one for girls and one for boys. Rooms take one or two students in single beds and come in three categories: Standard, with a bed and a desk area, a washbasin and shared bathroom; Confort, for girls only, which adds a private shower inside the room and a fridge; and Confort +, which has a full private bathroom with WC and shower, a fridge and a larger study space. Rooms look onto the courtyard or Lake Geneva, and some have a private balcony. Wi-Fi is unlimited throughout.

Meal Plan

Boarders have full board: breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner, plus drinks. Meals are served at table and the menus carry the Swiss 'Fourchette Verte' balanced-nutrition label. Lunch is also open to day students. On Saturdays and Sundays a brunch replaces breakfast and lunch.

Activities & Excursions

Up to 14 activities a week are included and the programme is renewed every week. Water sports on Lake Geneva include wakeboarding, wakesurfing, sailing and stand-up paddle; adventure activities include mountain hiking, karting, canyoning, horse riding, high-ropes courses, archery, paintball, bubble football, laser game, escape games, ice rink and hockey, and golf. Cultural outings go to the United Nations in Geneva, Chateau de Chillon, the Olympic Museum, the Cailler and Lindt chocolate factories, the Chaplin Museum, the Patek Philippe Museum and watchmaking quarter, and nearby towns such as Annecy, Evian, Interlaken and Geneva. Evenings are supervised and run until bedtime.

Facilities

The camp uses Ecole Lemania's own campus in central Lausanne, a short distance from Lake Geneva: classrooms, the school's boarding house with lounges and study space, the dining room, unlimited Wi-Fi and a weekly laundry and dry-cleaning service.

Camp Experience

A typical weekday starts with breakfast, followed by classes from nine until half past twelve, lunch, then activities and excursions through the afternoon, dinner, a supervised evening activity and lights out. Weekends bring a late brunch and further activities and excursions. Students arrive on Sunday afternoon and leave on Saturday morning; the Lemania team meets boarders at Geneva airport and takes them back at the end of the stay. Supervision is continuous at school, in the boarding house, in transport and during activities, pocket money is kept safe by the school administration, and accident and health insurance is part of the programme.

More about this camp

Ecole Lemania was founded in Lausanne in 1908 and runs its summer camp on the same campus it uses during the school year, at Chemin de Preville in the centre of the city. Mornings from Monday to Friday are given to class: intensive French, English or German with native or bilingual teachers in small groups at levels A1 to C1, the Fun Science Program of laboratory work and practical projects, or the Science Preparation Program in physics, mathematics and chemistry for students heading towards the Swiss Matura, the French Baccalaureate, university or EPFL. Science is taught in English, and a language course can be combined with a science course inside the same 16.5 hours of weekly tuition. Boarders live in the school's boarding house on two floors, one for girls and one for boys, in rooms for one or two students in three comfort categories, many of them looking out over Lake Geneva, the Alps and the Jura. The package covers full board, up to 14 activities a week and their transport, accident and health insurance, weekly laundry, the registration fee and the school shuttle to and from Geneva airport. Afternoons and evenings are built around the lake and the mountains around it: wakeboarding, sailing and paddle on Lake Geneva, hiking in the Bernese Alps, canyoning, karting, high-ropes and archery, and cultural visits to the United Nations in Geneva, the Chateau de Chillon, the Olympic and Chaplin museums and the Swiss chocolate factories. The activity programme changes every week, so students on a long stay do not repeat it.
