About

About the Course

The English course follows a communicative approach and covers speaking, listening, reading and writing together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Each week is built around a theme that runs through the lessons and a group project, presented to the class at the end of the week. Students are placed by English level and by age after an online placement test taken once the booking is made.

What’s Included

The Day Camp covers twenty English lessons a week, a freshly prepared lunch on the campus, the afternoon programme of activities and excursions, travel insurance and the shuttle between the school's main centre in St Paul's Bay and the camp. Evenings and weekends are left to the family.

Accommodation

No accommodation is included. The Day Camp is for children who stay with their family or in accommodation booked separately; students who need a bed on the campus take the residential package instead.

Meal Plan

Lunch is prepared on the campus every day by the kitchen team and served in the dining hall, with a salad bar and a rotation of Maltese and Mediterranean dishes — pasta bakes, grilled vegetables with couscous, chicken baguettes, a Maltese ftira with tuna and salad, risottos or burgers — followed by cake or fruit salad. Breakfast and dinner are not part of this option.

Activities & Excursions

Every afternoon after lunch there is an activity or an excursion. The programme mixes beach time at Golden Bay and other bays, stand-up paddling, snorkelling, kayaking, beach volleyball and abseiling with cultural visits to Valletta, Mdina, the catacombs of Rabat and the Three Cities, and quieter sessions such as arts and crafts, games and talent shows on the campus.

Facilities

The camp occupies a local secondary school in the residential area of Tal-Virtu' in Rabat, which the school takes over for the summer. The premises are enclosed by boundary walls and hold classrooms fitted with interactive learning technology, a dining hall, an auditorium, a turfed football ground, a woodland area, two indoor gyms and a turfed outdoor green area.

Camp Experience

Students join a mixed-nationality group drawn from more than twenty countries and spend the whole working day in an English-speaking environment: staff are required to use English with each other and with the students. The format suits families who are in Malta together and want a full, supervised day for the child while keeping the evenings and the weekend for themselves.

More about this camp

GV Malta's Day Camp is the full-day option of the school's summer programme for children and teenagers aged 9 to 16 who do not need a bed on the campus. The morning is English lessons, the middle of the day is a freshly prepared lunch in the dining hall, and the afternoon is the supervised activity and excursion programme. Evenings and weekends stay with the family, which is the difference between this option and the residential one. Lessons last forty-five minutes, twenty of them a week from Monday to Friday, in mixed-nationality classes with an average of twelve students and a maximum of sixteen. The course covers speaking, listening, reading and writing together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, and each week is built around a theme that runs through the lessons and through a group project presented at the end of the week. Every student takes the school's online placement test after booking, and classes are formed by level and by age. Afternoons alternate between the coast, the island's historic towns and the campus itself. Campers swim and paddle-board, snorkel, kayak, play beach volleyball and abseil; they visit Valletta, Mdina, the catacombs of Rabat and the Three Cities; and on quieter days they stay on site for arts and crafts, games and talent shows in the auditorium. Activity leaders supervise throughout. The campus is a local secondary school that the language centre takes over for the summer, in the residential area of Tal-Virtu' in Rabat. It is enclosed by boundary walls and holds classrooms with interactive learning technology, a dining hall, an auditorium, a turfed football ground, two indoor gyms and a woodland area. Rabat sits inland, away from the crowded coastal strips, and Mdina is a short walk from the gate. Transport and insurance are part of the package: a shuttle runs between the school's main centre in St Paul's Bay and the camp, and travel insurance is included. Lunch is included; breakfast, dinner and accommodation are not. The camp is booked by the week, with a minimum of one week and starts on Mondays through the summer season. Availability, dates and prices may change quickly. Please always confirm details directly with the camp provider before making travel arrangements.
