About

About the Course

Skiing runs every day across the Valloire area. Teenagers ski in groups matched to their level alongside camp leaders who hold the French youth-work certificate and are specialised in ski and snowboard, exploring different sectors of the domain rather than following a fixed lesson plan. Games, challenges and mini-contests punctuate the descents. Ski equipment and a helmet are provided.

What’s Included

The stay covers full board at the chalet, accommodation, supervised skiing across the area, ski equipment and helmet, the snow activities and evening programme, and the visit to the resort and village. Travel from a departure city is an option priced separately; teenagers can also be brought directly to the chalet. The stay is run from a minimum of twelve participants.

Accommodation

The chalet stands at the foot of the gondolas in Valloire, at about 1 430 m. Rooms sleep four to eight, with washrooms close by rather than in the room. The building holds dining rooms and a store for skis and boots.

Meal Plan

Meals are prepared on site by the centre cook, with regional dishes on the menu, and are served in the chalet dining rooms.

Activities & Excursions

Off the pistes the week holds sledging and snow games, and after dark the torchlight descent of the ESF instructors, a run of lights down the slope watched from below. There is a walk through the resort and the village, past lit shop windows, with a hot chocolate and a souvenir to take home. Evenings are run by the team: team games, blind tests, escape games, themed nights, improvisation and a party.

Facilities

The chalet has dining rooms and a dedicated store for skis and boots, and stands directly at the foot of the gondolas, so the slopes are reached on foot. Valloire links to Valmeinier and opens the Galibier-Thabor area and its 160 km of pistes.

Camp Experience

A small winter group in a Savoie village resort, about seventeen teenagers with one adult for every eight, built around skiing the whole area at your own pace rather than a lesson timetable, and an evening programme that changes every night. The team includes a qualified camp director, leaders specialised in ski and snowboard and a first-aid holder.

More about this camp

Valloire is a village resort in the Maurienne valley of Savoie, at the foot of the Galibier and Telegraphe passes. Linked with Valmeinier, it opens the Galibier-Thabor area and its 160 km of pistes for every level, while keeping the life of a working village. The chalet stands directly at the foot of the gondolas, so the slopes are reached on foot. This stay is skiing without a lesson timetable. Each day the group sets off to discover a different sector of the domain, in level groups, alongside camp leaders who hold the French youth-work certificate and are specialised in ski and snowboard. Beginners follow routes matched to them and build confidence; teenagers who already ski cover more of the area. Games, challenges and mini-contests run alongside the descents and hold the group together. Ski equipment and a helmet are provided, so nothing has to be hired or carried. Off the pistes there is sledging and the snow around the chalet, and after dark the torchlight descent of the ESF instructors, a run of lights down the slope watched from below. The group also walks through the resort and the village, past lit shop windows, with time for a hot chocolate and a souvenir. Evenings belong to the team: games in teams, blind tests, escape games, themed nights, improvisation and a party. Teenagers sleep in rooms of four to eight beds, with washrooms close by. Meals are cooked on site by the centre cook, with regional dishes on the menu, and served in the chalet dining rooms, which also hold a store for skis and boots. The group is about seventeen participants, with one adult for every eight; the team includes a qualified camp director, leaders specialised in ski and snowboard and a leader holding the French first-aid certificate.
