About

About the Course

The French Academy offers 20 periods per week of morning classes with an average of 10 students per group, organized by level suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced to ensure appropriate challenge for each participant. Classes focus on grammar, structure and vocabulary development with strong emphasis on oral work to develop fluency and build practical communication confidence. Teachers make learning enjoyable and help students make quick progress through communicative methods. On Fridays students take a small test to check progress, and upon departure each student receives a certificate with grades and teacher comments detailing their achievements and providing advice for continued language development.

What’s Included

The basic package includes 20 periods of morning lessons per week and a structured afternoon and evening activity programme with sports, creative workshops, social events and weekend excursions. The package also includes a weekly class trip every Wednesday afternoon, full board accommodation on campus (maximum 3 students per room), all transfers to and from Geneva airport or Lausanne train station on Saturdays during designated arrival/departure times, 24/7 supervision and care by experienced qualified staff and health team, and accident and sickness insurance. There is a transfer cost for students who do not arrive or leave on Saturday or arrive at/leave from outside Geneva airport or designated hours.

Accommodation

Students live on the Brillantmont International School campus, which is a traditional Swiss boarding school environment offering 24/7 care and support from experienced, dedicated staff. The setting includes several boarding houses (Villa, Château, Monribeau, Pierre Grise, Graveline) in which boys and girls live separately, organised by age. A teacher lives on every floor of each boarding house. Students are placed in rooms with one or two other students of the same age and gender but from another nationality to encourage cultural exchange and mutual respect. Most students share bathrooms (3-4 students per bathroom); a small number of private en-suite bedrooms are available in one building only. Single rooms are not available in the Summer Course.

Meal Plan

Students eat with friends and staff in the dining room, unless on a picnic or barbecue. A choice of menus is available with vegetarian options, a salad bar and a selection of fruits. Special dietary needs to be discussed in advance.

Activities & Excursions

Afternoon options include BM Move (varied sports on the lake or on campus); BM Tennis Pro (in English / French for experienced players only) and BM Create (Creative Arts taught in English). Students can also enjoy evening activities as well as weekend excursions. Students must choose their afternoon option at the time of application and it is not possible to change afterwards. Late afternoon, if weather permits, students sometimes visit the open-air swimming pool in Lausanne by the lake, which has pools, sports pitches and fun inflatables.

Facilities

The French Academy uses the facilities of Brillantmont International School's campus in Lausanne; classes and academies take place on site, and students have access to sports areas on campus including outdoor tennis and basketball courts, an underground gym and a beautiful garden for relaxation. The campus features beautiful buildings from the early 1900s with well-equipped, modern spaces inside for living and learning, located just five minutes from the centre of Lausanne. Off-campus facilities are used by the lake for activities such as stand-up paddle, tennis and beach volleyball, as well as for excursions and activities including high ropes courses, mountain karting, hiking routes, boat trips, museums, city discoveries, ice rinks, bowling, indoor climbing and laser game venues.

Camp Experience

Brillantmont highlights nearly 150 years of experience in welcoming young people to its Summer Course and emphasises the presence of experienced, dedicated staff offering 24/7 care and support with a health service available 24/7. The Summer Course operates under the same leadership as the regular school year, and many staff members work during both periods. The school is owned and managed by the founding family, creating a "home from home" family atmosphere.

More about this camp

The French Summer Academy for Juniors runs on the campus of Brillantmont International School on Avenue Charles-Secrétan in Lausanne, French-speaking Switzerland. It is residential and accepts students aged 10 to 16. Programme and activities. This is the French-language counterpart to the English academy that shares the same Lausanne campus. Being in a French-speaking city means students practise the language outside lessons as well as in class, which is the practical advantage of a Swiss location over an English-speaking one for French study. Accommodation and supervision. Students live on the Brillantmont International School campus, a traditional Swiss boarding-school environment offering round-the-clock care and support. Because Brillantmont operates as a boarding school year-round, the residential structure is permanent rather than assembled for the summer. Ages, dates and duration. The academy accepts students aged 10 to 16; a 17-year-old is not eligible. Four sessions are listed, beginning in early July. Location and travel. Lausanne is on the northern shore of Lake Geneva. Geneva airport is around forty minutes away by train, which simplifies arrival compared with mountain camps. Transfer arrangements are not published. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit families who want French immersion in a Swiss lakeside city and value a wide international mix. Note that the same Brillantmont campus hosts several programmes in this catalogue — an English academy, a technology academy and Brillantmont's own summer course — so families should compare them directly, since the venue is shared and the difference lies in the language, focus and operator. Confirm which programme and age band you are booking.
