Organised for kids aged 8 to 18, the ENSR international summer camp offers quality language courses along with summer activities in a safe and warm environment. Run by the Lausanne-based international school Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande, the camp has taken place every July for more than 60 years in Champéry, a village in the Swiss Alps in Valais. Campers choose between a Language Studies, Sports and Leisure programme with 22 periods of French or English per week in groups of four to seven students, and a Multisports and Leisure programme for those who prefer sport to language lessons. Accommodation is at the Hôtel Suisse in two-bed rooms with a private bathroom, and full board is included.

About

About the Course

Campers choose one of two programmes. Language Studies, Sports and Leisure fills the morning with French or English lessons — 22 periods a week in groups of four to seven students, so the teacher can build an individual programme for each camper — and gives the rest of the day to sport, excursions and social events. Students who want a certificate can follow a preparation course for the DELF diploma at levels A1 and A2 or for the Cambridge YLE exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers): 88 lessons of 45 minutes with evaluation tests and exam methods. Multisports and Leisure replaces the lessons with a full sports programme for campers who prefer adventure and sports challenges.

What’s Included

The camp takes place over three consecutive weeks in July and campers may book one, two or three of them. The published price covers full board, the language lessons of the chosen programme and every activity on offer during the rest of the day. Transfers from Geneva Airport, insurance for campers living outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, the Europa-Park weekend and the individual sports lessons are booked separately and are listed under extras.

Accommodation

Campers stay at the Hôtel Suisse in Champéry, a building in the old style of a traditional Swiss house. Rooms are two-bed with a private bathroom, and the common rooms are broad and open with views over the mountains. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, with access limited and supervised according to the age of the camper. Cleaning of personal clothes is included for campers who stay more than two weeks.

Meal Plan

Full board is included for the whole stay.

Activities & Excursions

The sports programme usually includes the adventure park, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, climbing, cross-country, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, tennis and unihockey, with tournaments and team events across the stay. The sports centre is a two-minute walk from the hotel. Free time — about two hours every other day — can be used for individual tennis lessons, horse riding or a paragliding flight, each booked and paid separately.

Facilities

The camp uses the sports centre of Champéry, two minutes on foot from the hotel, with courts, outdoor fields and swimming. The hotel provides the dining room, common rooms, laundry and Wi-Fi.

Camp Experience

Champéry is a small village in Valais surrounded by the Alps, at the edge of one of the largest ski and mountain-biking areas in Europe, and small enough that everyone is treated as a local. The camp has run there every July for more than sixty years and brings together campers from many countries, so the language a camper studies in the morning is the language spoken over lunch.

École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande

École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande (ENSR) is a private day and boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland. Founded in 1906, it teaches pupils from pre-school to the Swiss Maturité and the International Baccalaureate, and has made winter sports part of school life since its foundation. Alongside the school year it runs camps in the Swiss Alps that are open to children who are not enrolled at the school: ski camps in winter and an international summer camp in Champéry for ages 8 to 18, with French or English lessons or a multisports programme.

More about this camp

Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande, an international school based in Lausanne, has run its summer camp in Champéry for more than sixty years. The camp welcomes campers aged 8 to 18, grouped as Junior Camp for ages 8 to 11 and Campers for ages 12 to 18, and runs over three consecutive weeks in July that can be booked one, two or three at a time. Two programmes are on offer. Language Studies, Sports and Leisure gives 22 periods of French or English a week in classes of four to seven students, which is small enough for the teacher to set an individual programme; campers who want a recognised certificate can prepare for the DELF diploma at A1 and A2 or for the Cambridge YLE exams. Multisports and Leisure drops the lessons for campers who would rather spend the day on sport — adventure park, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, climbing, cross-country, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, tennis and unihockey. Campers live at the Hôtel Suisse in the village, in two-bed rooms with a private bathroom, with full board included. The sports centre is two minutes away on foot. Extras that can be added include a return transfer from Geneva Airport, health and accident insurance for campers living outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, a two-day weekend at Europa-Park in Germany, and individual tennis, horse riding or paragliding sessions during free time.
