English Summer School in Vancouver for ages 12-17

Twenty fifty-minute lessons of general English a week, taught in the morning or the afternoon depending on the group. Classes are small — fifteen students on average and eighteen at most — and run from elementary to advanced level, with students placed by a test on their first day. The course is for teenagers aged 12 to 17 and covers listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and pronunciation.

Three ways of booking the same tuition. Tuition only leaves accommodation, meals and activities to the family. The day-camp package adds lunch on weekdays, the weekday activity programme and a full-day excursion each weekend. The full package adds full-board homestay accommodation in a twin room on top of that. Registration, health insurance and a one-way airport transfer are charged separately and are listed under extras.

Students on the full package live with a host family in a twin room on full board. The homestay is arranged by the school and shared with another student of the same programme. Tuition-only and day-camp students arrange their own accommodation in the city.

Day-camp students have lunch on weekdays. Students on the full package are on full board with their host family, which covers breakfast and dinner at the home and a packed or provided lunch on school days.

An organised activity programme runs on weekdays alongside the lessons, with one full-day excursion at the weekend. Activities are supervised by LSI staff and are included in the day-camp and full packages; on the tuition-only option they are not.

The school occupies the third floor of a building on Hornby Street in the centre of downtown Vancouver, with classrooms, a student lounge and a computer room. The harbour, the art gallery and the shops and cafes of Robson Street are all within walking distance, and the beaches and parks on the waterfront are a short ride away.

Vancouver puts a downtown campus, an ocean shoreline and the coastal mountains within reach of one another, and the junior programme uses all three: mornings or afternoons in class, the rest of the day out in the city or on the water with the group. Arrivals and departures are on Sunday, so a stay can be booked for anything from one week to the whole intake.
