About

About the Course

Twenty fifty-minute lessons a week, sixteen hours and forty minutes of class time, taught at levels from elementary to advanced. Lessons cover integrated skills — listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and pronunciation — and project work, and teaching is interactive rather than exam-focused. New students are tested and given an orientation on their first day so that they are placed in the right class. LSI's price list gives the junior class size as fifteen students on average and eighteen at most. The school's e-learning system is open to students outside class hours.

What’s Included

Three bookings are published for students aged 12 to 17. Tuition only covers the lessons alone, and the family arranges its own accommodation and meals. The day camp adds lunch on weekdays, the weekday activity programme and a full-day excursion each weekend. The full package adds full-board homestay accommodation in a twin room on top of everything in the day camp. LSI also publishes a tuition-only programme for children aged 6 to 11, but it requires a parent or guardian to accompany them, so it is not a residential camp and is not sold here. The school's winter intake and its residence option are published for groups only and are therefore not offered on this card.

Accommodation

Students on the full package live with an LSI homestay family in a twin room with full board. Homestays are within a thirty-minute travelling distance of the school, and host families and staff are subject to background checks. Students booking tuition only or the day camp arrange their own accommodation.

Meal Plan

The full package includes full board with the homestay family, with breakfast and dinner at home. The day camp includes lunch on weekdays. Tuition-only students make their own arrangements.

Activities & Excursions

The activity programme runs five mornings or afternoons a week with one full-day excursion at the weekend. It is included in the day camp and full package bookings and optional for tuition-only students. The school sits beside Rosedale's parks with subway access to the rest of the city, so the museums, galleries and waterfront of central Toronto are within easy reach.

Facilities

The school occupies a modern building on Yonge Street in Rosedale. Students have a lounge with a microwave and fridge, a computer room and free internet access. Restaurants, cafes, parks, the subway and the Yorkville shopping district are all nearby.

Camp Experience

Toronto is a large, safe and strikingly multicultural city with excellent public transport, which makes it straightforward for a teenager to get around and to meet students from many countries. The school keeps dedicated student welfare and safeguarding officers, a twenty-four hour emergency telephone number and a code of conduct that students sign, and its welfare procedures are assessed by local accreditation agencies.

More about this camp

LSI Toronto occupies a modern building on Yonge Street in Rosedale, one of the city's most attractive residential neighbourhoods, and LSI has taught English to international students since 1965. The junior programme is built for students aged 12 to 17: twenty lessons of fifty minutes a week at levels from elementary to advanced, taught interactively rather than as exam drill, with project work and a first-day placement test. The school's price list gives the junior class size as fifteen students on average and eighteen at most. There are three ways to book. Tuition only covers the lessons; the day camp adds weekday lunch, the activity programme and a full-day weekend excursion; the full package adds full-board homestay accommodation in a twin room. Host families are within a thirty-minute travelling distance of the school and are subject to background checks. Arrivals and departures fall on Sunday and lessons run from Monday. Toronto is large, safe and genuinely multicultural, with public transport good enough that a teenager can get about easily, and the school sits beside Rosedale's parks with the museums, galleries and waterfront of the centre a short ride away. Student welfare and safeguarding officers, a twenty-four hour emergency number and a signed code of conduct sit behind the programme, and the procedures are assessed by local accreditation agencies.
