More about this camp

Embassy Summer Madrid runs at Colegio Mayor Marqués de la Ensenada, a university residence in a pleasant and safe district of Madrid, Spain. It accepts students aged 11 to 18. Language — read this first. This is a Spanish immersion programme. Families arriving at this page expecting an English course should look elsewhere in the catalogue: the teaching here is Spanish, in Spain, and the immersion is into Spanish life and language. It is a strong option for a student learning Spanish, and the wrong one for a student who needs English. Programme and activities. The programme combines Spanish tuition with the experience of a summer in the Spanish capital. Madrid offers museums, parks and a substantial cultural programme within the city itself. Accommodation. Students stay in the university residence Colegio Mayor Marqués de la Ensenada, in twin rooms with private ensuite bathrooms. Twin rooms with a private bathroom sit above the shared-facility norm for programmes at this price level. A university residence is not a school boarding house, so families should ask what supervision applies outside teaching hours — particularly relevant given the age range starts at 11. Ages, dates and duration. The centre accepts students aged 11 to 18. That span covers primary-school age through to adulthood, which is unusually wide; families should ask specifically how an 11 or 12-year-old is grouped and supervised relative to the oldest students. One session is currently listed, beginning at the end of June. Location and travel. Madrid is served by Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with good connections across Europe and the Americas. The residence is in a residential district rather than the tourist centre. Transfer arrangements are not published and should be confirmed. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit students learning Spanish who want immersion in the capital, and families comfortable with a university-residence setting. The private ensuite twin rooms suit students who would find shared bathrooms difficult. It does not suit anyone looking for English tuition, and families with a young child should settle the supervision question before booking.
