More about this camp

Alpadia Summer School in Leysin is run by Alpadia Language Schools, part of Kaplan International, at a resort on Route du Belvédère in Leysin, in the Vaud Alps of Switzerland. It is a residential camp for students aged 8 to 17. Programme and activities. Both English and French are offered, in Standard and Intensive formats. The provider runs programmes here in summer, spring and autumn rather than summer alone, which makes Leysin one of the few centres in the catalogue available outside the main holiday season. The site includes an on-site restaurant, a sunny terrace, an indoor pool and a games area, so a large part of the activity programme runs without leaving the property. Accommodation and supervision. Accommodation is hotel-style: quadruple rooms with private bathrooms, each combining modern furnishing with traditional Swiss detail and featuring a balcony. Private bathrooms in a shared room is a more comfortable arrangement than the communal facilities used at several comparable centres. Ages, dates and duration. The camp accepts students aged 8 to 17 — the widest and youngest-reaching band among the Alpadia centres in this batch, which makes it one of the few options for a child under 10. Sessions listed include autumn arrival dates, consistent with the year-round positioning. Currently open dates appear in the session block on this page and should be confirmed with the provider. Location and travel. Leysin is a mountain resort in the canton of Vaud, above the Rhône valley, reached by rail from Aigle. Geneva is the usual arrival airport. Transfer arrangements are not published as part of the standard package and should be confirmed directly. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit families with a younger child who cannot meet the 10 to 14 minimum ages common elsewhere, families wanting a language stay outside the July-August peak, and those who value on-site facilities in a mountain resort. Parents of eight or nine-year-olds should still ask directly how the youngest campers are grouped and supervised, as ratios are not published.
