About

About the Course

Windsurfing is taught together with Nordwind Wassersport, a water sports club based at Schubystrand. Every participant is assessed on the first day and taught from that level onward, so complete beginners and children who have already stood on a board join the same camp. The course covers twelve to fifteen hours of instruction including theory: sheet start, tacking, holding height and gybing for beginners, and harness and footstrap riding, beach start, fast tacks and water start for the more advanced. The optional VDWS beginner certificate is worked towards in practice and theory through the week.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount — ask us for details. The package covers eight travel days with seven nights on a full-board basis, accommodation in multi-bed rooms close to the beach, all drinks at mealtimes, the full set of course materials, the windsurfing lessons with the partner surf school, the leisure programme, free use of surf kayaks and stand-up paddling boards subject to availability, and round-the-clock supervision by the camp team day and night. Bed linen and towels are brought by the participants themselves. A supervised group transfer by train or coach from several German cities is offered by the operator as a paid extra at booking.

Accommodation

Participants stay in the sports hostel at Schuby, where the camp itself takes place, in four- to six-bed rooms furnished for children. Each room adjoins a bathroom with shower and toilet, and the camp leaders sleep almost immediately next door. Around the hostel there are beach football, a low ropes course, volleyball, speed badminton, kayaking and more, and both the water sports facilities and the Baltic resort of Damp are within walking distance.

Meal Plan

Meals are planned to be balanced, sporty and high in energy, so that participants have the strength for the board and the water. Children are fed on full board with a hot meal, which is normally lunch, plus cold meals served as a large buffet in which everyone joins in, and a barbecue buffet during the camp days. Drinks are served at mealtimes and are available throughout the day; participants are asked to bring a drinking bottle.

Activities & Excursions

Alongside the windsurfing lessons the team runs a varied leisure programme: speed badminton and tamburello on the beach, beach football and beach volleyball, basketball and table tennis, an introduction to and use of stand-up paddling boards and surf kayaks, table football and darts, a bouldering wall and a low ropes course, swimming and relaxing on the Baltic beach, pedal boats, group games, a campfire at the barbecue area with a barbecue evening, and a visit to the adventure pool in Damp.

Facilities

The camp is based at the sports hostel at Schubystrand in Schleswig-Holstein, with the Baltic Sea and the partner surf school within walking distance. The grounds hold beach football and volleyball courts, a low ropes course, a bouldering wall, a games area with table football and darts, and dining facilities serving the buffet meals. The surrounding landscape runs from long lines of dunes to steep coastal cliffs.

Camp Experience

The Baltic coast at Schubystrand offers small and larger waves, and windsurfing there asks for discipline and a feel for the body. Children spend their days between the water, the beach and the camp, learning a sport from qualified instructors while the camp team keeps the group together on land. The camp is generally not suitable for people with restricted mobility.

More about this camp

Surfcamp Sommerferien is run by ReiseMeise Kinderreisen at the sports hostel at Schubystrand, in Schleswig-Holstein on the German Baltic coast near the resort of Damp. The camp is built around windsurfing: twelve to fifteen hours of lessons including theory, delivered with the Nordwind Wassersport club, which also teaches catamaran and skiff sailing, kitesurfing and ocean kayaking. Every child is assessed at the start of the course and taught from that point, so beginners and children with board experience can attend the same week. Beginners work on sheet start, tacking, holding height and gybing; those further along go on to harness and footstrap riding, beach start, fast tacks and gybes and the water start. The optional VDWS beginner certificate is prepared in both practice and theory. Away from the water the team fills the day with beach football and volleyball, basketball and table tennis, speed badminton and tamburello, bouldering, a low ropes course, pedal boats, group games, a campfire with a barbecue evening and a visit to the adventure pool in Damp. Participants sleep in four- to six-bed rooms with adjoining bathrooms, eat on full board with buffet cold meals and a hot lunch, and are supervised day and night by the camp team. The programme takes children aged seven to thirteen in groups of six to twenty, and can be booked for one or two weeks depending on the start date. It is generally not suitable for people with restricted mobility.
