École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande

École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande (ENSR) is a private day and boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland. Founded in 1906, it teaches pupils from pre-school to the Swiss Maturité and the International Baccalaureate, and has made winter sports part of school life since its foundation. Alongside the school year it runs camps in the Swiss Alps that are open to children who are not enrolled at the school: ski camps in winter and an international summer camp in Champéry for ages 8 to 18, with French or English lessons or a multisports programme.

More about this camp

Saanenmoser sits in the Gstaad ski area of the Bernese Oberland, and it is where the Ecole Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande brings its youngest skiers each winter. The camp welcomes 42 children from the school’s Primary classes 2, 3 and 4 and from Middle School class 5, aged 7 to 10, and it is open to children who are not enrolled at the school. The day is spent on the slopes. Ski lessons run throughout, and other winter activities fill the rest of the programme — sleighing and snowman making among them. Children are divided into groups of six students at the most, and each group keeps the same supervising teacher for the whole week, which is what makes a camp of this size workable for children of this age. Evening activities are organised by the school. The price covers full board, the ski pass, ski lessons, evening activities and round-the-clock care, so nothing beyond travel is left to arrange. Winter sport has been part of the Ecole Nouvelle since its foundation, and the ski camps it runs every winter have made skiing a school tradition rather than an excursion.
