About

About the Course

Five days on snow on the Saas-Fee glacier, the second-highest ski area in Europe, with a helmet provided for every participant. Skiers who want to try a snowboard, and snowboarders who want to try skis, can switch during the stay. The world’s highest underground funicular takes the group up to 3,600 metres, above the Swiss Valais.

What’s Included

An eight-day residential stay for teenagers aged 14 to 17, run by CESL. Travel is by train and then coach. The camp takes 40 young people with one group leader for every eight participants. Participants need a valid national identity card or individual passport, a European Health Insurance Card and a parental exit authorisation with a copy of the signatory’s ID; non-French nationals should check entry formalities with the Swiss embassy.

Accommodation

The group stays in the Don Bosco and Tabor chalets at Saas-Grund, described by the organiser as offering a high level of comfort. The chalets sit directly on the Saas-Grund slopes, ten minutes from those of Saas-Fee. Skis and boots are left in a heated equipment room at the foot of the lifts.

Meal Plan

Full board is included in the tariff: four meals a day — breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner. Meals are served at the Don Bosco and Tabor chalets in Saas-Grund, where the group is accommodated.

Activities & Excursions

Skiing or snowboarding on five days of the stay; an introduction to ice hockey; a professional ice hockey match when the fixture calendar allows; and an organised evening activity every day, run by the animation team.

Facilities

A heated ski and boot room at the foot of the lifts serves the chalets. Saas-Fee itself is a car-free village, and the resort runs a waste sorting and reduction scheme that the camp takes part in.

Camp Experience

The camp is built around the glacier: in July and August the French national ski team trains at Saas-Fee, so snow conditions in February are dependable and there is no need to watch the forecast. Evenings are spent dancing, playing and talking together with an animation team the organiser describes as dynamic and experienced. The centre is run as a dedicated teenage camp.

Five days of skiing or snowboarding on the Saas-Fee glacier, helmets provided for everyone, with the option to switch between skis and board during the stay. Alongside the snow days the programme includes an introduction to ice hockey and, subject to the fixture calendar, a professional hockey match, plus an organised evening activity every day.

This is an activity programme, not a taught course, so it carries no weekly lesson count. The school names no ski or snowboard lessons for this stay: time on snow is supervised by the camp animation team, and every participant is given a helmet. Participants may try the other discipline, skis or board, at the start of the stay.

Skiing and snowboarding on the Saas-Fee glacier, with lifts reaching high pistes and a new run each day. Alongside time on snow the programme includes an introduction to ice hockey, attendance at a professional hockey match when the fixture calendar allows, and an evening activity every night. The group is a teenage one, with one leader for every eight participants.

More about this camp

Saas-Fee lies in the Swiss Valais and its glacier carries the second-highest pistes in Europe, reached by the highest underground funicular in the world at 3,600 metres. CESL, a French non-profit association that has been running colonies de vacances for children and teenagers, brings a group of 40 young people aged 14 to 17 here for an eight-day residential winter camp, with one group leader for every eight participants. Five days of the stay are spent on skis or a snowboard, with a helmet for everyone and the option of switching disciplines during the week. Away from the pistes the programme introduces ice hockey and, when the fixture calendar allows, takes the group to a professional match. Every evening has an organised activity run by the animation team. The group stays in the Don Bosco and Tabor chalets at Saas-Grund, on the local slopes and ten minutes from Saas-Fee, leaving skis and boots in a heated room at the foot of the lifts. Saas-Fee is entirely pedestrian and the resort runs a waste sorting and reduction scheme the camp takes part in. Travel from France is by train and then coach.
