About the Course

Orchestra and choir work for young instrumentalists and singers. Instruments taken are strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon), brass (trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba) and percussion. Mornings are sectional rehearsals by instrument group, the late afternoon is full orchestra and choir rehearsal, and the course closes with two public concerts instead of an examination. Individual instrument lessons and a conducting course can be added. The musical team is led by conductor and composer Jean-Jo Roux with choir and orchestra conductor Adriana Tanus, violinist Emmanuel Andre, a head of percussion and further instrumental teachers.

The boarding fee covers accommodation on campus, meals, transfers and supervision. Individual instrument lessons and the conducting course are optional additions, and travel to Cap d'Ail is not included.

Accommodation

Young musicians live on the campus of the Mediterranean Centre for French Studies in multi-bed rooms, together with the other international teenagers of the summer campus. The stay is registered as a holiday centre for minors with the regional youth and sport authority of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Meal Plan

Full board on campus is part of the boarding fee.

Activities & Excursions

Early afternoons are free for the beach and downtime, and the evenings are hosted by the centre together with the other young people of the international campus. The academy itself ends with two public concerts in the Jean Cocteau theatre, one of them staged with the theatre workshop of the same campus.

Facilities

The centre stands in a three-hectare park on the mountainside overlooking the Mediterranean, at the gates of the Principality of Monaco and half an hour from Nice and from Italy. Its open-air theatre was decorated in antique style by the poet Jean Cocteau and serves as the concert stage of the academy.

Camp Experience

Young players and singers of the same age meet from France, Spain and further afield, rehearse in a full orchestra and choir, and perform in public at the end of the stay. Rehearsals are held in French with English translation, and French, English, Italian and German are all spoken on the campus.
