A supervised holiday camp for children run by Jugendtours at the Kinder- und Jugendbegegnungsstaette Saalburg, a youth centre standing directly on the shore of the Bleiloch reservoir with its own beach. Children sleep in simple, friendly bungalows with multi-bed rooms, a lounge, a washbasin and a toilet; showers are in central modern sanitary buildings and full board is served in a large dining hall. The activity programme is built around the water and the surrounding forest: a banana-boat ride or a boat trip on the reservoir, a canoe tour with a swimming stop, raft building and rafting with trained instructors, a visit to the Saalburg high-ropes forest, a ride on the summer toboggan run and a geocaching treasure hunt. On site there are boat and bicycle hire, a ball pitch, streetball, volleyball, table tennis, billiards and a small disco. Supervision is round the clock with a ratio of one leader to ten children.

About

About the Course

A multi-activity holiday programme with no lessons. The days are built from water sports on the Bleiloch reservoir, excursions in the surrounding forest and evening entertainment, all led by trained Jugendtours leaders. A sample week runs from arrival and getting to know the group, through a geocaching treasure hunt, the high-ropes forest, an indoor adventure world, the summer toboggan run, a canoe tour with a disco in the evening, a craft and film evening, raft building with instructors, and a final day of water action and a campfire evening before departure.

What’s Included

The price covers accommodation in the bungalows, full board, the supervised activity programme and the excursions named by the operator, together with a camp T-shirt, insolvency insurance and the leaders on site. Travel is offered either by coach from the home region or as self-arrival, and the coach price depends on the departure point chosen at booking, so the figure shown here is the lowest the operator publishes. A local tourist tax is payable on site at the reception and is listed separately under extras. Some excursions and programmes are optional and can be booked locally.

Accommodation

Children sleep at the Kinder- und Jugendbegegnungsstaette Saalburg, which stands directly on the shore of the Bleiloch reservoir and has its own beach on the grounds. Accommodation is in simple, friendly bungalows with multi-bed rooms, a lounge, a washbasin and a toilet. Showers are in central modern sanitary buildings.

Meal Plan

Full board is served in the large dining hall on site. Vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free meals and other dietary requirements can be arranged when they are given at the time of booking.

Activities & Excursions

Water is the centre of the programme: a banana-boat ride or a boat trip on the reservoir, a canoe tour with a swimming stop, raft building and rafting with trained instructors, and swimming from the site own beach. On land there is the Saalburg high-ropes forest with two to three hours of climbing, a ride on the summer toboggan run, a geocaching treasure hunt, streetball, volleyball and table tennis. Evenings bring a disco, a film evening and a campfire.

Facilities

The holiday site offers a wide range of leisure facilities: its own beach on the reservoir, boat hire, bicycle hire, a ball pitch, streetball, volleyball, table tennis and billiards, a small disco and a large dining hall. Accommodation, washrooms and the activity areas are all on the same grounds.

Camp Experience

The camp suits children who want to spend their holiday on and in the water. Supervision is round the clock with one leader to every ten children and a fixed contact person for each group, so younger participants travelling without their parents are looked after closely. The operator states that the trip is not suitable for participants with reduced mobility.

There are no lessons. Counsellors run each day from a published example plan of included outings and camp activities: geocaching around the reservoir, a session in the Saalburg climbing forest, a ride on the summer toboggan run, a canoe tour with a swim, raft building with trained instructors, a banana-boat ride from the water-ski centre, a visit to the fairy-tale forest, T-shirt tie-dyeing, and evening karaoke, discos, film and games nights and a closing campfire. The plan can change with the weather, and a domino rally is organised for rainy days.
