German Course
The friLingue St. Bernard Autumn camp brings children and teenagers to a school-owned chalet in Liddes, in the Val d'Entremont valley of the Valais Alps. Participants study French, English or German in groups of about six students in the morning, then head out for excursions and workshops in the afternoon. About
About the Course
Participants choose one language: French, English or German. Classes run Monday to Friday across two morning blocks, twenty lessons a week in total. Groups average about six students and cover every level from beginner to proficient, with placement decided by an oral test on arrival. Teaching leans on role play, drama, games and audiovisual work rather than textbook drill, so the language is used from the first day.
What’s Included
The fee covers tuition, full-board accommodation in the school-owned chalet, the activity and excursion programme, and round-the-clock supervision. Optional afternoon intensive classes, a riding course, tennis and a coding workshop can be added, as can accompanied travel from the airport or from the main Swiss stations.
Accommodation
Participants live in the chalet Relais de Dranse, a renovated house owned by the school on the bank of the Dranse river in Liddes, away from through traffic. Dormitory rooms are the standard option; smaller rooms are available for a supplement, and participants who want full immersion can be placed with a local host family instead.
Meal Plan
Full board is included and served in the chalet. Special diets such as gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan or halal can be arranged for a supplement and should be requested when booking.
Activities & Excursions
Afternoons and evenings are built around the mountains and the valley. Each week brings three excursions and two workshops, with day trips to Sion, the Aosta valley across the Italian border, the Emosson dam and the surrounding alpine villages. Evenings run to sports tournaments, a treasure hunt, karaoke, film nights, a casino evening and a disco. Swimming, bowling and outdoor games fill the gaps.
Facilities
The camp uses the school's own chalet as classroom, dining room and residence, which keeps lessons, meals and free time in one place. The house sits in a quiet spot below the pass road to the Aosta valley, with open countryside on the doorstep and no passing traffic.
Camp Experience
Liddes lies at the entrance of the Combe de l'A nature reserve, on the historic route over the Great St. Bernard pass. Swiss and international participants are mixed in the same groups, which is the point of the camp: the language keeps being used outside the classroom, on the excursions and in the evening programme. The setting is alpine and the pace is active, but the house is small enough that staff know every participant.
