Français... ça glisse — French language ski camp in La Toussuire

French is the working language of the whole camp, not a subject taught in a classroom. Monitors speak French in the ski groups, at the table and during the evening programme, and participants are asked to do the same — that rule is what makes the week an immersion. On the first days of the stay, qualified instructors from the French national ski school (ESF) give three hours of ski or snowboard instruction a day, also in French, so the language is learned alongside the technique.

The camp price covers ski or snowboard lessons in French with ESF instructors on the first days, ski sessions and snow activities supervised by Roeland monitors, evening activities in French, ski equipment (skis, poles and boots) and a helmet, a six-day lift pass for the whole Les Sybelles ski area, and full board. Coach travel from Ghent is not included and is booked separately. Snowboarders pay a supplement for their equipment. Because of limited luggage space, only personal helmets may be brought; other personal ski equipment stays at home.

The group stays at Hotel Edelweiss in the village of Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire, a short distance from the La Toussuire slopes. Rooms sleep between two and eight people. The hotel has a bar and two play rooms where participants can relax together after a day on the piste.

Full board is included: breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and an evening meal.

Skiing or snowboarding every day in small groups, with Roeland monitors alongside the participants on the slopes and during snow activities. Evenings are given over to games and relaxed group activities, run in French like the rest of the day.

The accommodation has a bar and two play rooms for the group. The camp uses the Les Sybelles ski area, reached from the village of Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire.

A week in the French Alps over the New Year holidays for older teenagers who want to ski and to come home speaking better French. The group is Belgian and international, the days are spent outdoors, and French is used from breakfast to the evening programme. Roeland vzw has organised language holidays since 1971 and works with trained monitors who take part in the whole day, on the slopes and off them.
