CAVILAM – Alliance Française Vichy
CAVILAM – Alliance Française is one of France's most renowned French language institutes, based in the spa town of Vichy in the Auvergne. Alongside its famous teacher-training and adult programmes, its Junior Programme combines French courses (15 hours/week, qualified teachers experienced with young learners) with multi-sport activities at the VICHY STAGES sporting centre for ages 11–16, with full-board host family accommodation or a day format.
Ages 11–16, with lessons from complete beginner (A1) upwards. Classes have 10–15 students and all trainees meet for the afternoon activities.
Course materials, French lessons (15 hours/week), the full activities and sports programme and — in the full-board option — host-family accommodation with 3 meals and a snack per day. Registration fee €98. Travel to Vichy is not included.
Juniors study at a long-established Alliance Française institute and do sport at the supervised VICHY STAGES centre; host families provide full board. Parents must supply a parental authorisation, liability insurance attestation and a health declaration for sport.
More about this camp
The Junior Programme is run by CAVILAM – Alliance Française in Vichy, in central France. CAVILAM is one of the country's long-established French-language institutes, and Vichy is a recognised centre for French athletics training, which shapes the sports side of the programme.
Programme and activities. Students take 15 hours of French per week with teachers experienced in working with young learners, then move to sport in the afternoons. The sports element is a genuine part of the offer rather than generic recreation — the town's athletic facilities are the reason the programme is based here. Two versions are listed: a full-board option and a day programme for families already in the area.
Accommodation and meals. The full-board option places students in host family accommodation, described by the provider as a guest house arrangement, with three meals and a snack per day. The intention is that French continues outside class hours. Families should confirm precisely what form the accommodation takes and how far it is from the institute, since a host family and a guest house are different things and the description covers both terms.
Ages, dates and duration. Both versions accept students aged 11 to 16. Seven sessions are listed, beginning at the end of June — a generous choice of start dates that helps families working around fixed school terms.
Location and travel. Vichy is a spa town in the Allier department of central France, connected by rail to Paris and Lyon. Clermont-Ferrand is the nearest airport, with Lyon a larger option. Transfer arrangements are not published and should be confirmed with CAVILAM.
Who the programme may suit. This programme may suit students who want French tuition without giving up sport for the summer, and families who value an established institute over a general summer camp. The day option makes it accessible to families already living in or visiting the region. Families whose child is 17 should note the upper limit of 16, and those wanting a residence rather than family accommodation should ask what alternatives, if any, CAVILAM offers.
