Morocco Touring Camp for Children and Teenagers

Zigotours runs this camp as one fixed itinerary, repeated over the winter season for one group at a time. Participants are aged twelve to seventeen. The operator caps the group at twenty-four, does not run a departure below twelve, and sends a qualified director and camp leaders with it at a ratio of one adult to every eight young people. The programme is led in French.\n\nThe route opens in Marrakech. Jemaa el-Fna is the obvious first stop, with its snake charmers, its street dentists and its permanent commotion, and the group works outwards from there: the Bahia Palace, the lanes of the medina, and the souks, where the tanners and the jewellers each have their own quarter.\n\nFrom Marrakech the group travels south to Ouarzazate, at the gateway to the Sahara. The kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is the centrepiece, a fortified village of packed earth that has served as a film location, Gladiator among the films shot there. Around it are the palm groves, the particular architecture of the kasbahs, and the Dades gorges.\n\nThe last stage is Essaouira on the Atlantic, the old Mogador. It is a town on a human scale with a great deal of history in it, and the group discovers it as a photo rally rather than a guided walk. South of the town, the long beach at Sidi Kaouki is one of the country's better surfing spots, and it is where participants get their first lesson.\n\nTravel out and back is by flight with a stopover between Paris and Marrakech. On the ground the group uses local and private transport that meets the safety standards of the country. Accommodation is small, simple hotels in the centre of each of the three towns, with rooms for between two and six people, and catering is full board taken in small local restaurants.\n\nThe package covers the flight from Paris, full board, accommodation, all travel on the ground, the activities named in the programme, supervision, and repatriation and personal accident cover. Personal spending, visa fees unless the operator says otherwise, vaccinations and other formalities, and activities not named in the programme are not included.
