About

About the Course

Five days spent on and in the water. Coasteering works along the sea cliffs and gorge scrambling up the rivers of Eryri (Snowdonia); both combine scrambling, jumping and swimming on a journey of exploration. The centre has a full range of specialist sea kayaks for the coastline, white-water kayaks for the rivers and canoes for calmer journeys, plus stand-up paddle boards and body boards.

What’s Included

The price covers the five-day activity course with instruction and equipment, accommodation at the centre and full catering. An extra night before the course or after it finishes is charged separately.

Accommodation

Participants stay at Arete Outdoor Centre itself, in one of its three buildings - the Main Centre, the West Wing or Bryn Eryr. Each area has its own communal space, and there is parking, an acre of grounds, a barbecue area and a pond outside.

Meal Plan

The week is fully catered: meals are provided at the centre for the whole course.

Activities & Excursions

Coasteering on the sea cliffs, gorge scrambling up the rivers of Eryri (Snowdonia), sea kayaking along the coastline, white-water kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding on the lake and body boarding in the surf.

More about this camp

Arete Outdoor Centre runs its water activity week from its own site in Llanrug, within reach of both the rivers and mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the coastline of Anglesey. The week lasts five days, starting at midday and finishing mid-afternoon on the last day, and everything in it involves water. Coasteering works along the sea cliffs, scrambling, jumping and swimming from one feature to the next; gorge scrambling does the same up the steep rivers inland. The centre keeps a full fleet of boats, so a day can be spent in a specialist sea kayak along the coast, in a white-water kayak on a river, or in a canoe on a more placid journey. Stand-up paddle boards are used for lake sessions and pair well with body boards for a surf day. Accommodation and all meals are at the centre, in one of its three buildings, and transport to and from Bangor railway station can be arranged. The week is open from age 16 and can count as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh residential.
