Tipperary Mountain Riding Centre runs week-long pony camps in the Tipperary mountains, with residential places for riders aged 12 and over. Campers ride for at least two hours a day in lessons, on treks and in mounted games, and spend the rest of the day learning stable management and horse care. Each camp ends with a gymkhana of races, obstacle courses and jumping. The centre is family-run and approved by the Association of Irish Riding Establishments.

About the Course
The camp is built around riding rather than classroom teaching. Campers spend a minimum of two hours a day in the saddle across lessons, treks and mounted games, and the rest of the day on horse care: grooming, feeding, leading, tacking up, stable management and cleaning tack. Riders are divided into small groups by age and experience, from lead-rein beginners to competent jumpers, and older riders can work towards one of the centre Equine Skills awards. The camp finishes with a gymkhana with rosettes and prizes.
What’s Included
The residential place covers the camp programme and the stay at the centre. Camp days run from 10:00 to 17:30. A 50 percent booking deposit is required and a 10 percent sibling discount is available. Campers who own a pony can bring it to the camp for 15 euro per day or overnight. The centre requires that a parent or responsible adult is resident in Ireland for the duration of the camp.
Accommodation
Residential campers stay at the centre. Guest accommodation is on the top floor of the family farmhouse, which is reserved for guests and includes a large en-suite room sleeping up to five people, plus a further room with a double and a single bed for larger parties. The exact room allocation for camp weeks is arranged by the centre, so families should confirm sleeping arrangements when booking.
Meal Plan
Meals are provided for residential campers at the centre; day campers are asked to bring a packed lunch and snacks. Families should tell the centre about any dietary requirements when booking.
Activities & Excursions
Riding instruction in lessons, treks on the mountain trails and mounted games make up the riding side of the camp. Off the horse, campers learn grooming, feeding, leading, tacking up, tack cleaning and stable management, and take part in the closing gymkhana with races, obstacle courses and jumping.
Facilities
The centre is set at Rusheen near Borrisoleigh in the Tipperary mountains, with stables, riding facilities and direct access to mountain trekking routes. Riding helmets and boots are available on free loan. Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway are all under 120 km away.
Camp Experience
The centre is run by a small family team and is known for its rescue horses and its focus on natural horsemanship: campers are taught to build a bond with their pony through body language and positive reinforcement, and to develop balance and an independent seat from the start. Groups are small and riders are matched by age and ability.
