Timo Trec Residential Pony Camp — Co. Tipperary, Ireland

Tipperary Mountain Riding Centre, also known as Timo Trec, is a family-run riding centre at Rusheen, Borrisoleigh, in the mountains of County Tipperary in central Ireland. It is an Association of Irish Riding Establishments centre and runs treks, lessons, riding holidays and pony camps for children and young people through the year. The pony camps are open to riders aged 5 to 18 of all abilities, from lead-rein beginners to competent jumpers, and residential places are available for campers aged 12 and over. Residential campers stay at the centre for the week at a cost of 675 euro. The remaining residential week in the 2026 summer season starts on Monday 10 August 2026 and runs to Friday 14 August. A further summer camp runs from Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 August 2026, and a Samhain camp is planned for the autumn with dates still to be confirmed. Camp days run from 10:00 to 17:30. Campers spend a minimum of two hours a day in the saddle, split between riding instruction, treks on the mountain trails and mounted games. The rest of the day goes on horse care: grooming, feeding, leading, tacking up, cleaning tack and helping with stable management such as mucking out and sweeping the yard. The centre teaches natural horsemanship, with an emphasis on body language and positive reinforcement in handling ponies, and on developing balance and an independent seat in the saddle. Older riders can work towards one of the centre Equine Skills awards, and every camp ends with a gymkhana of races, obstacle courses and jumping with rosettes and prizes. Riders are divided into small groups based on age and experience. Riding helmets and boots are available on free loan from the centre, so campers only need socks, long trousers and a rain jacket. Campers who own a pony can bring it along for 15 euro per day or overnight. Residential campers stay on the guest floor of the family farmhouse at the centre, which has a large en-suite room sleeping up to five and a further room with a double and single bed. Meals are provided for residential campers. The centre requires that a parent or responsible adult is resident in Ireland for the duration of the camp, which is an important condition for families travelling from abroad to check before booking. The centre sits within roughly 120 km of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway, which makes it reachable as a first residential riding experience for families across Ireland. A 50 percent booking deposit is required and a 10 percent sibling discount is available. Availability, dates and prices may change quickly, so please confirm details directly with the camp provider before making travel arrangements.
