The Institute takes place at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. The program is designed for bright and ambitious students to immerse themselves in carefully chosen, cutting-edge topics under the guidance of university and industry experts. Courses culminate in individual research projects that students can include in their transcripts.
Students choose from a list that includes AI and the World, Business and Finance in the 21st century, Engineering, Green Futures: Solutions to Environmental Challenges, International Relations in a Post-Unipolar World, Medicine and Public Health, and History.
Students meet with their tutors in small groups six mornings a week for three hours, for class and, as the month progresses, to conduct their own research. Students arrange their own lunch at local restaurants or sandwich shops. Three afternoons a week feature presentations on vital topics to help prepare for higher education and the job market; when there is no class, students can join organized activities or trips and tours in and around Oxford. Dinner in Hall is followed by evening activities, events, or shows.
Fees include transport to and from the airport, accommodation, breakfast and supper, all scheduled extra-curricular activities, and all course supplies. Classroom instruction, workshops, field trips, two daily meals, and all program-organized activities are covered. A select number of scholarships based on financial need are also available.
Students live in rooms occupied by undergraduates during the year, housed in singles or doubles. A private bathroom can be requested for a fee on a first-come, first-served basis. Breakfast and dinner are served on campus: breakfast is primarily continental with cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, coffee, and tea; dinner offers several options including a vegetarian dish and a salad bar. Special dinners are held regularly, and each program ends with a formal banquet. Students are responsible for their own lunch, which can be purchased locally.
Shortly after the program, all students and their parents receive a comprehensive set of grade reports presenting the course syllabus and highlighting the student’s specific contributions and achievements within their course or courses.
