The program is held at Peterhouse, the University of Cambridge’s oldest college, founded in 1284. The college welcomes the Cambridge Experience every summer, and classes are designed to use Cambridge as a teaching tool, so students discover the city and the university as they explore their chosen subject.
Students in grades 8 and 9 choose one course per session from options including Medical Science, Business, Psychology, Espionage, Law, Advertising, Aerospace Engineering, Banking and Markets, Creative Writing, Criminology, Engineering, English Literature, Global Business, Politics, Security and Intelligence Studies, and The World Wars. Classes are guided by university teachers and creative professionals.
The day begins with breakfast in Hall. Major classes meet in classrooms, labs, studios, or out in Cambridge. Students arrange their own lunch at local restaurants or sandwich shops. Three afternoons a week are devoted to class; when there is no class, students can join organized activities or trips and tours in and around Cambridge. The day ends with dinner in Hall and evening activities, events, or shows.
Fees include transport to and from the airport, accommodation, breakfast and supper, all scheduled extra-curricular activities, and all course supplies. Classroom instruction, workshops, field trips, two daily meals, and all program-organized activities are covered. A select number of scholarships based on financial need are also available.
Students live in rooms occupied by undergraduates during the year, housed in singles or doubles. A private bathroom can be requested for a fee on a first-come, first-served basis. Breakfast and dinner are served in the residence dining hall: breakfast is primarily continental with cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, coffee, and tea; dinner offers several options including a vegetarian dish and a salad bar. Special dinners are held regularly, and each program ends with a formal banquet. Students are responsible for their own lunch, which can be purchased at a college snack bar or local shops.
Shortly after the program, all students and their parents receive a comprehensive set of grade reports presenting the course syllabus and highlighting the student’s specific contributions and achievements within their course or courses.
