About

About the Course

One-week sports camps for middle and early high school students who are relatively new to a sport, or who want to try a brand-new one. The week is built around intensive training rather than competition: days are given to coaching, team building and games, so that a beginner leaves understanding how the sport is actually played instead of having simply been introduced to it.

What’s Included

Each academy is sold as a one-week residential place on the school campus, covering the week’s coaching and the stay. The school has not published an itemised list of what the fee covers for these one-week academies — ask us and we will confirm it with them.

Accommodation

Students live on the Northfield Mount Hermon campus in twin rooms within the school residences, with staff on site for the week.

Meal Plan

Meals are served on campus in the school dining hall during the academy week.

Activities & Excursions

Alongside training the wider summer programme runs in the evenings: movie nights, cookouts and ice cream socials, with off-campus outings during the week.

Facilities

Training uses the school’s sports hall and outdoor fields on a residential New England campus, with dining hall, laundry and campus-wide internet access.

Camp Experience

A short, deliberately unintimidating week. Because everyone arrives new to the sport, no one spends it catching up — and a student who was curious on Monday often leaves on Saturday having found the thing they want to keep doing.

More about this camp

The Summer Sports Academies are the entry point to Northfield Mount Hermon’s summer sport programme, held on the school’s campus in Gill, Massachusetts. Each academy runs for a single week and is built for middle and early high school students who are relatively new to a sport, including those trying one for the first time. That premise shapes the week: days are packed with coaching, team building and games, at a level that assumes no prior experience, so a beginner finishes with a real working grounding rather than a taster. Because every student in the group is starting from a similar place, the week tends to be far less daunting than joining an established squad. The academies are residential — students live in twin rooms in the school residences and eat in the dining hall — and they join the wider summer community for evening activities and outings. Several separate weeks are offered, so a student can take one academy or follow one with another in a different sport.
