About

About the Course

A two-week intensive for athletes who already play their sport and want to train at it properly. Mornings are spent working with coaches. Afternoons move to the theory that makes training stick — anatomy for athletes, careers in athletics, and team building and leadership — and each evening adds a practice session or a scrimmage, so the day ends with the work applied rather than described.

What’s Included

The fee covers training, room and board, linens and laundry, course equipment, on-campus activities, off-campus excursions and internet access. Health insurance and personal spending are not covered.

Accommodation

Athletes live on the Northfield Mount Hermon campus in twin rooms within the school residences, with staff on site throughout the intensive.

Meal Plan

Full board on campus — breakfast, lunch and dinner in the school dining hall, included in the fee.

Activities & Excursions

Beyond training, the wider summer programme runs in the evenings and at weekends: movie nights, cookouts and ice cream socials, swimming, whitewater rafting, a day at Six Flags and a day exploring historic Boston.

Facilities

Training uses the school’s sports hall and outdoor fields on a residential New England campus, with dining hall, laundry and campus-wide internet access.

Camp Experience

Two weeks in which an athlete trains twice a day and spends the middle of it learning how a body and a career in sport actually work. The evening scrimmages are the point: the morning’s coaching gets tested the same day, in front of teammates who arrived from other countries and other leagues.

More about this camp

The Summer Athletics Intensive is the athletic strand of Northfield Mount Hermon’s summer programme, on the school’s campus in Gill, Massachusetts. It is designed for athletes who want to deepen their training in one sport rather than sample several. Mornings are spent with coaches. Afternoons are given to the courses that support performance — anatomy for athletes, careers in athletics, and team building and leadership — and each evening brings a practice session or scrimmage, so the day closes with the morning’s instruction put into play. The intensive is residential: athletes live in twin rooms in the school residences with full board, and join the wider summer community for evening and weekend activities including swimming, cookouts, movie nights, whitewater rafting and a day in Boston. Training takes place in the school sports hall and on its outdoor fields. It suits a committed player who wants concentrated coaching and the company of athletes drawn from many countries.
