About

About the Course

General English for students aged 11 to 18, taught on the UWS Ayr campus. The school prints 15 hours of lessons a week, each lesson lasting 1 hour 30 minutes, with a class-to-student ratio of 1:18. Grammar and listening are tested by an online level test before arrival and speaking and writing on arrival; levels from A1+ to C1+ are accepted.

What’s Included

The school publishes three programme tiers at this centre. Classic is the base programme and includes paid entries to Edinburgh Castle and the Loch Lomond cruise; the Gold and Platinum upgrades are charged as supplements on top of it. A damage deposit is collected on arrival and returned on departure. Airport transfer is priced separately in the school's own price list.

Accommodation

Accommodation is on the campus itself, so classrooms, canteen and sports facilities are a short walk from the bedrooms. Students live in modern flats of four to six people with single en-suite bedrooms and a communal kitchen with seating, a fridge and a freezer. The kitchen is fully fitted and the cookers are switched on only at a group leader's request. Linen is provided and changed every six to eight days; towels are not provided. The accommodation block has a newly refurbished ground-floor common area with televisions, a pool table and an outdoor seating area, and laundry facilities that are app-operated and charged separately. The campus has a 24-hour security presence and CCTV.

Meal Plan

Meals are served in the campus canteen, and there is also a café on campus. On full-day excursions the school provides cash for lunch rather than a packed lunch.

Activities & Excursions

The school prints three full-day excursions a week and one full-day activity day per fortnight, travelling by private coach. Named destinations include Edinburgh city centre and West End, Glasgow centre and West End, Stirling town centre and a Loch Lomond cruise, with a half-day excursion into Ayr town centre. Evenings are programmed on campus, where an indoor sports hall and grass outdoor fields are available.

Facilities

The campus sits in 28 acres of parkland beside the River Ayr and holds modern teaching and learning spaces, a library, a canteen and a café, with an indoor sports hall and grass outdoor fields. There are 150 single beds with en-suite bathrooms on site, Wi-Fi across the campus and app-operated laundry. The campus has won a Green Impact Award.

Camp Experience

Ayr is a coastal town in South Ayrshire with sandy beaches, a seafront known for its sunsets, historic architecture and a town centre of restaurants and shops fifteen minutes' walk from the campus. The surrounding countryside is Robert Burns country — Scotland's national poet was born nearby at Alloway. Ayr has rail and bus stations with links to central Glasgow.
