About

About the Course

General English runs for 15 hours a week in lessons of 1 hour 30 minutes, with breaks between them and a maximum of 18 students per class. Six levels are taught, from Elementary to Advanced (CEFR A1+ to C1+); students take the grammar and listening parts of the placement test online before arrival and confirm speaking and writing in class on day one. The course is taught in classrooms equipped with digital resources and ends with a General English Certificate.

What’s Included

The residential package covers tuition, accommodation on the University of Kent campus, the daily activity programme and the full-day excursions. Terms run two weeks each and students may combine them; the college also sells Gold and Platinum programme upgrades. Airport transfers are priced separately in the centre's own transfer price list. A refundable damage deposit is collected, and a lost key carries a fixed charge.

Accommodation

Students live on campus in university residences — Turing College, Keynes College or Becket Court. All rooms are single and en-suite. Flats hold up to nine students in Turing College and up to fourteen in Keynes College; Becket Court is laid out as corridors of up to fourteen rooms. Rooms are cleaned and linen changed before arrival and weekly after that; towels are not provided. Groups have no kitchen access, but common spaces are available around the campus. The university keeps a 24-hour security presence, CCTV and secure access entry.

Meal Plan

Meals are taken on campus; the school's own gallery names the Eliot College dining hall. A packed lunch is provided for each full-day excursion. The school publishes no further detail about the meal arrangement, so nothing more is stated here.

Activities & Excursions

Afternoons and evenings are filled by the college's own activity programme: football indoors and out, volleyball, basketball, touch rugby, badminton and tennis, table tennis, rounders, hockey, yoga, Zumba and fitness classes, dancing and swimming at a local leisure centre. Creative workshops include jewellery making, art, mask making, sketching, painting, origami, photography and nature art. Performance and games run to drama, musical theatre, conversation workshops, orienteering, capture the flag, talent shows and the Trashion Show. Three full-day excursions a week are included, with half-day visits to local attractions.

Facilities

The centre sits on the university's green campus on the outskirts of Canterbury, a mile on foot from the city centre and about ten minutes by public bus. Teaching rooms, the lecture theatre and the dining hall are in Eliot College; accommodation is on site. The campus holds up to 600 students at this centre.

Camp Experience

Canterbury is a historic city in the heart of Kent, known for its cathedral and the River Stour. Students are supervised at all times through the day by the college's own staff during classes, activities, excursions and meals, join a supervised evening activity programme, and have college staff on site overnight alongside a welfare coordinator on every campus. Excursions are guided by college staff so that students learn about the history, culture and customs of the places they visit.
