About

About the Course

General English for ages 14 to 18: fifteen hours a week, in lessons of 1 hour 40 minutes with breaks scheduled between them. Six levels are taught on the CEFR scale, from A1+ to C1+, and the class to student ratio is one to eighteen. The entry test comes in two parts - listening and grammar are done before arrival, speaking and writing on site. Teachers hold a teaching certificate, and every member of staff signs a declaration form and is checked with a disclosure and two references.

What’s Included

The Classic Programme is quoted per stay - one price for a fourteen-night stay and one for a seven-night stay; the amounts are in the price list on this page. The price covers tuition, hall accommodation, full board, the activity programme and the excursion programme, with entry to the Royal Observatory Greenwich and the London Stadium included. The centre runs four two-week terms across the summer. Gold and Platinum upgrades are offered on top of the Classic Programme and are listed separately in the extras. A refundable damage deposit is taken for the stay and returned at the end of it; airport transfers are priced separately and are not part of the package.

Accommodation

Students live in the Cutty Sark halls in single en-suite bedrooms, with four to nine beds per flat and a kitchen used as a communal social area. The kitchen has no appliances or utensils provided, and towels are not provided in any of the rooms, so students bring their own; linen is changed before arrival and weekly after that, and rooms are cleaned on the same schedule. The halls are a five to seven minute walk from the main teaching buildings and the campus canteen, past Greenwich Market, and two minutes from the Cutty Sark DLR station. A security team is on site, with welfare coordinators and campus security providing first-aid cover.

Meal Plan

Full board, served in the campus canteen a five to seven minute walk from the halls: breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. On each full-day excursion, and on Sundays and optional days, students are given a packed lunch instead of lunch on site.

Activities & Excursions

Evening activities run every day. The centre page gives one full-day and four half-day excursions a week, and entry to the Royal Observatory Greenwich and the London Stadium is covered by the Classic Programme. Greenwich itself is the first classroom: the Cutty Sark ship, Greenwich Market, the National Maritime Museum and the Queen's House are all minutes from the halls, and the DLR puts the rest of London within easy reach. Afternoons go to sports and conversation clubs on and around the campus, with large green spaces nearby, and evenings to culture nights, a talent show and discos.

Facilities

The campus sits inside the Old Royal Naval College, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the bank of the Thames in the heart of Greenwich, whose grand halls have appeared in films including The King's Speech and Les Miserables. Teaching happens in the university's historic buildings, with the halls a five to seven minute walk away. On campus and in the halls: classrooms, the residence, the canteen, laundry, vending machines, free wifi, coffee shops, a safe box in the office and a security team on site; convenience stores and cash machines are both on campus and locally available. A study room is available on request; there is no indoor sports hall, no swimming pool access, no games console room and no common room inside the accommodation, and the large green spaces are near the campus rather than on it.

Camp Experience

Greenwich still feels like a village, and it is minutes from central London by DLR. The campus is in the Old Royal Naval College beside the Thames; the Royal Observatory, Greenwich Market and the Cutty Sark are on the doorstep, and the nearest station is a two-minute walk from the halls. Two hundred students at a time, all in single en-suite rooms, with centre managers, excursion and activity managers and welfare coordinators on site around the clock.
