About

About the Course

General English for ages 11-18: 15 hours a week, 10-12 lessons of 1 hour 30 minutes each, with breaks scheduled between them. Six levels are taught, from A1+ Elementary to C1+ Advanced on the CEFR scale, and classes hold a maximum of 18 students. The grammar and listening parts of the placement test are taken online before arrival; speaking and writing confirm the level on the first day in class. Classrooms are equipped with digital resources, FSL content is built into the curriculum, and the course finishes with a General English Certificate.

What’s Included

The Classic Programme is quoted per stay - one price for a 14-night stay and one for a 7-night stay; the amounts are in the price list on this page. The price covers tuition, campus accommodation, meals, the activity programme and three full-day excursions a week. The centre runs two terms each summer, each of two weeks, both starting on a Thursday, and holds 400 places. A refundable damage deposit is collected for the room and returned at the end of the stay, so it is not part of the course price; a lost key or key fob is charged separately. Airport transfers are not included and are priced in the school's own transfer price list. Gold and Platinum upgrades to the Classic Programme are sold as optional extras.

Accommodation

Students live on the Keele University campus in corridor-style flats of six en-suite single bedrooms with a shared kitchen and common area. The kitchen has a fridge-freezer, kettle, microwave and sink; utensils are not provided. Linen is supplied and changed on the mid-stay clean day, towels are not provided. Rooms are cleaned before arrival and weekly afterwards. Wi-Fi reaches all flats and the campus. The university runs 24-hour security, CCTV and secure entry systems on all buildings, and a safe box is available in the centre office.

Meal Plan

Meals are served on campus and are part of the Classic Programme: breakfast at 07:30, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 18:00 on class days. On full-day excursion days students receive a packed lunch - an ambient snack box with a bread roll, a bottle of water, a piece of fruit, crisps and a chocolate bar - or cash for lunch, as the daily programme sets out.

Activities & Excursions

Evening activities run daily and the day programme is built around sport, arts and performance. The published list includes football indoors and outdoors, volleyball, basketball, touch rugby, badminton, tennis, table tennis, rounders, hockey, yoga, Zumba and fitness classes, dancing and swimming at a local leisure centre, which may carry an extra charge. Creative workshops cover jewellery making, art workshops, mask making, sketching, mindfulness colouring, painting, origami, photography and nature art. Performance and games bring drama, musical theatre, conversation workshops, orienteering, TikTok challenges, capture the flag, talent shows and the Trashion Show. Competitions and championships are organised through each course. Three full-day excursions a week travel by private coach to destinations such as Chester, Liverpool and the Beatles Story Museum, Nottingham, Warwick Castle, Manchester with its Science and Industry Museum and Art Gallery, and Shrewsbury with Stoke-on-Trent; entry to the Beatles Story and to Warwick Castle is included.

Facilities

The campus combines open spaces and green areas and gives students a common room, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, vending machines and a laundry room with detergent included in the wash cycle. Wi-Fi is available across campus. Reception is open during the day and the campus safety team is on duty around the clock. There is no study room, computer room, games console room or swimming pool on site. ATMs, a post office, cafes, a convenience store, places of worship and tourist information are available on campus and locally.

Camp Experience

Keele University sits between Birmingham and Manchester in the north of England, two miles from the centre of town - 40 minutes on foot, 15 minutes by private coach, 20 minutes on the public bus that stops inside the campus. Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent are both within that bus ride. Trails and lakes surround the campus for quieter time, while the excursion programme reaches busy cities such as Manchester and historic towns such as Shrewsbury. The centre is accredited by the British Council. Centre managers, excursion and activity managers and welfare coordinators are on site 24/7, staff wear purple t-shirts and white lanyards and students wear purple lanyards at all times.
