About

About the Course

General English for ages 11-18: 15 hours a week, 10-12 lessons of 1 hour 30 minutes each, with breaks scheduled between them. Six levels are taught, from A1+ Elementary to C1+ Advanced on the CEFR scale, and classes hold a maximum of 18 students. The grammar and listening parts of the placement test are taken online before arrival; speaking and writing confirm the level on the first day in class. Classrooms are equipped with digital resources, FSL content is built into the curriculum, and the course finishes with a General English Certificate.

What’s Included

The Classic Programme is quoted per stay - one price for a 14-night stay and one for a 7-night stay; the amounts are in the price list on this page. The price covers tuition, campus accommodation, meals, the activity programme and three full-day excursions a week. The centre runs two terms each summer, each of two weeks, both starting on a Friday, and holds 250 places. A refundable damage deposit is collected for the room and returned at the end of the stay, so it is not part of the course price; a lost key is charged separately. Airport transfers are not included and are priced in the school's own transfer price list. Gold and Platinum upgrades to the Classic Programme are sold as optional extras.

Accommodation

Students live on the Hartpury campus in blocks of en-suite single bedrooms with shared kitchen and common areas; a block holds 16 to 20 rooms. Rooms have a fridge and further appliances are available in the common room; utensils are not provided. Linen and towels are supplied, and rooms are cleaned before arrival and weekly afterwards. Student Wi-Fi reaches the flats and the rest of the campus, and the accommodation sits centrally among the canteen, classrooms and activity spaces. The university runs 24-hour security, CCTV and secure access entry systems, and a safe box is available in the centre office.

Meal Plan

Meals are served on campus and are part of the Classic Programme: breakfast at 07:30, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 18:00 on class days. On full-day excursion days, on optional days and on Sundays students receive a packed lunch instead of lunch on campus.

Activities & Excursions

Evening activities run daily and the day programme is built around sport, arts and performance. The published list includes football indoors and outdoors, volleyball, basketball, touch rugby, badminton, tennis, table tennis, rounders, hockey, yoga, Zumba and fitness classes and dancing. Creative workshops cover jewellery making, art workshops, mask making, sketching, mindfulness colouring, painting, origami, photography and nature art. Performance and games bring drama, musical theatre, conversation workshops, orienteering, TikTok challenges, capture the flag, talent shows and the Trashion Show, and evenings add film presentations, quiz nights, scavenger hunts, bingo and themed discos. Competitions and championships are organised through each course. Three full-day excursions a week travel by private coach to Gloucester, Cardiff and the National Museum, Stratford-upon-Avon with Shakespeare's Birthplace and Shakespeare's New Place, Bath and the Roman Baths, Stonehenge and Salisbury, and Oxford.

Facilities

The campus combines modern facilities with the large green spaces of its agriculture and sport studies, and gives students a common room, a study room, indoor sports facilities including a sports hall, outdoor green space, vending machines and a laundry room. Wi-Fi is available across campus. There is no computer room, games console room or swimming pool on site; reception is open during the day, and residential accommodation staff provided by the university are on duty around the clock. Cafes are available on campus and locally, while ATMs, a post office, a convenience store, places of worship and tourist information are available locally.

Camp Experience

Hartpury sits near the border between England and Wales, 4.8 miles from Gloucester city centre - about 20 minutes by private coach and around half an hour on the public bus, with stops a short walk from campus and a regular service into the city. The cathedral city stands on the River Severn, with Cheltenham and the Cotswolds nearby, and the campus looks out over the Gloucestershire countryside. The centre is accredited by the British Council. A centre manager, activity and excursion managers and welfare coordinators are on site 24/7; staff wear purple t-shirts and white lanyards and students wear purple lanyards at all times.
