About

About the Course

English lessons are graded by an online placement test taken before departure, so every child learns at their own pace. The standard course runs fifteen lessons of forty-five minutes in each week of travel, in groups of no more than seventeen pupils, and works on vocabulary, grammar and speaking confidence. Teaching is at the operator's accredited language school by qualified teachers at native-speaker level, and the focus is conversation, listening and reading comprehension. At the end of the stay each participant receives an individual certificate written to CEFR criteria. The levels the course is taught at are A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount — ask us for details. The price covers the journey out and back, accommodation on campus, full board, the standard English course, the excursion package and the care of ruf tour leaders working alongside international supervisors. An intensive course and a mini-group course are sold as paid upgrades.

Accommodation

Children live on the King Alfred Campus itself, in modern student apartments with a shared common room and six single rooms belonging together. Every room has a desk, wi-fi and its own bathroom. The campus sets glass frontages against historic masonry in green parkland, and the old town is about twenty minutes away.

Meal Plan

Full board is served in the university's bright modern refectory. The day starts with a continental breakfast buffet, lunch is a hot meal, and the evening brings a three-course buffet. Fruit and drinks are put out in the afternoon between lessons and free time.

Activities & Excursions

Every week of the stay includes a full day in London with a sightseeing tour led by the supervisors, with time for shopping and food stops, and a half-day trip to a town in the surrounding area. On the departure day the group travels through Dorset to the Jurassic Coast. Afternoons and evenings are filled with creative and sporting activities and evening events such as a show, a quiz or a party.

Facilities

The stay is on a university campus, so the sports hall, the common rooms and the games facilities on site are part of everyday life, and the accommodation, the teaching rooms and the refectory are all within the grounds.

Camp Experience

This is written as a first trip to England for a younger child: German-speaking contacts are on site, the group travels and eats together, and the rules follow the British Council care standards and British child-protection law. Children under sixteen may leave the campus only with a supervisor, and after the shared evening programme everyone returns to the accommodation together.
