More about this camp

The Southbourne Junior Summer English Camp is run by the family-owned Southbourne School of English in Bournemouth, on England's south coast, and has operated since 1966. It accepts students aged 9 to 15 (9 to 16 in groups). Programme and activities. Students take 15 hours of English per week, with an activity and excursion programme using Bournemouth's beaches and seaside-town setting. The long family ownership — since 1966 — speaks to a settled, experienced operation. Accommodation and meals — note the age condition. Full-board homestay is offered with warm, caring hosts within walking distance of the school, but the homestay is for students aged 10 and over. A 9-year-old therefore cannot take the homestay option, so families of a 9-year-old should confirm what accommodation applies to them. Homestay within walking distance is more manageable than a long bus commute, but students still travel to the school and spend evenings with the family. Families should confirm meal arrangements. Ages, dates and duration. The camp accepts students aged 9 to 15, with homestay from 10. A large number of arrival dates is listed from mid-July, giving strong flexibility. Location and travel. Bournemouth is on the Dorset coast, well connected by rail to London and with its own airport. The homestay families are within walking distance of the school. Transfer arrangements are not published. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit families wanting an established, family-run English course with walking-distance homestay in a seaside town, for a child aged 9 to 15. The long history and the short homestay commute are the draw. Families of a 9-year-old should confirm the accommodation, since homestay starts at 10, and those wanting a residential campus should look elsewhere.
