This course is for students with at least an Intermediate (B1) level who want to go beyond general English and actively sharpen their communication skills. The main goal is to add speaking fluency, debating, and presentation techniques to your language toolbox. Its unique feature is the daily Communication Skills module, which replaces daytime activities but still lets you enjoy evening and weekend programmes.

In addition to the 20 weekly Classic lessons, you attend 8 extra lessons (6 hours) of Communication Skills. Here, the methodology shifts to task‑based learning: you debate serious and fun topics, practise presentation skills, act out role plays, and learn “youth speak” from the UK and US. Groups remain small, and the atmosphere is highly interactive – your teacher acts as a coach while you do most of the talking. Materials include debate prompts, video clips, and real‑life scenarios for small talk, anecdotes, and active listening. Classroom activities are designed to push your fluency and quick thinking. You will learn to express opinions clearly, disagree politely, build consensus, and truly listen to others. Because the lessons replace daytime activities, the focus is entirely on speaking, interaction, and building social communication skills that work both inside and outside the classroom.

An extra 6 hours per week of speaking‑focused training in debating, presentations, role plays, and social communication for Intermediate+ students who want to become truly fluent and confident in English.

More about this camp

Sir Christopher is a summer camp in central Cambridge, for students aged 14 to 17. (The camp operates under this brand name; the venues are established Cambridge institutions.) Programme and activities. The camp combines general English teaching with a full programme of activities and excursions, in a central-Cambridge location. The university city puts colleges, museums and the river within walking distance for the activity and excursion side. Accommodation. Students stay in single residential bedrooms on-campus at Ridley Hall and Newnham College — established Cambridge institutions. Single rooms give each student privacy, and the central-college setting is part of the appeal. Families should confirm what supervision applies outside teaching hours. Ages, dates and duration. The camp accepts students aged 14 to 17 — an older band, consistent with a central-city programme. Eight arrival dates are listed from early July. Location and travel. The camp is in central Cambridge, around an hour north of London by train, with Stansted the nearest airport. Transfer arrangements are not published. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit older teenagers who want a central-Cambridge base with their own single room and a genuine college setting. It is one of several Cambridge-area programmes in this catalogue under related brands — Sir Michael and Sir George also run in Cambridge, with different accommodation and age bands — so families should compare them on location, accommodation and age. Younger children should look elsewhere, as the minimum here is 14.
