About

About the Course

Students step into the working day of a vet through immersive career simulations. They practise as a small animal vet, conducting examinations and reaching diagnoses; take on the role of an equine vet and observe therapy techniques on horses; perform surgical procedures on dummy animals to build dexterity; meet a wide range of exotic animals and the people who care for them; and visit veterinary sites including farms and simulated veterinary clinics to learn about the different fields within veterinary medicine. The simulations are coached by vets from small animal practice, surgery, emergency care, equine, wildlife and farm settings, who also run private networking sessions with the group. Students receive comprehensive coaching on applying to a top veterinary school, covering personal statements and interviews.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount - ask us for details. Three options are published: a first-week taster, the full two-week experience, and a two-week enhanced package, each available residential or non-residential. Contact time with professionals is published as 25 hours for one week, 50 hours for two weeks and 65 hours for the enhanced package. Every option includes hands-on career simulations, programme materials, equipment and resources, a digital certificate, on-site safeguarding and pastoral care, and time on the UCL campus. Excursions to professional workplaces are published as up to two on the one-week option and up to five on both two-week options. The two-week options add an assessment centre with feedback, a graduation ceremony with a physical certificate, and the Level 3 Award in Work Experience and Career Planning, equating to eight UCAS points. The enhanced package adds time on the LSE campus, personalised professional development and university admissions coaching, personality and situational judgement testing, and a private gala dinner and networking event with professionals.

Accommodation

Residential students live on the university campus in central London, in private single en-suite rooms at University of London halls of residence used by UCL and LSE students. The school names Garden Halls, College Hall, International Hall and Frances Gardner House among the halls it typically occupies. The one-week residential option is published as six nights and both two-week options as thirteen nights; check-in is the day before the programme starts and check-out the day after it ends. Non-residential students attend as day students and arrange their own stay.

Meal Plan

Breakfast and dinner at the accommodation canteen are included for students who choose the residential package. The school does not publish meals for non-residential students.

Activities & Excursions

Students on the residential package have an evening and weekend social activity programme run by the school. Excursions to professional workplaces and venues across London are part of the programme itself rather than an add-on, and certain days of the programme take place at industry locations away from the campus.

Facilities

The programme is based at UCL and the surrounding University of London campus in central London. The enhanced package also includes time on the LSE campus. Accommodation for residential students is in university halls of residence, all rooms single and en-suite.

Camp Experience

Residential students are supported around the clock by a designated pastoral and activity leader, house parents, centre managers and a medical office. The school states that students have joined its programmes from more than one hundred countries and that around half of its students come from the United Kingdom and the United States. The published minimum English language requirement is CEFR B2, upper-intermediate. Work completed on the two-week options is assessed for the Level 3 Award in Work Experience and Career Planning, and students receive a personalised certificate and an industry reference letter after an online assessment.

A veterinary career-immersion programme in London for students aged 15 to 18, based on the UCL and University of London campus. 65 hours of contact time with professionals over two weeks: the Monday-to-Friday programme plus a weekend of extra career development sessions. More about this camp

The Vet Summer Experience is a work experience programme rather than a taught course: students spend the programme doing the job rather than reading about it. The simulations cover small animal consultation and diagnosis, equine practice and therapy techniques, surgical procedures on dummy animals, and exotic animal handling, with site visits to farms and simulated veterinary clinics. Each simulation is coached by a practising vet, and the group also attends private networking sessions with them and a coaching session on veterinary school admissions, covering personal statements and interviews. The programme runs on the UCL and University of London campus in central London, with certain days at other industry locations. Students choose a first-week taster, the full two-week experience or a two-week enhanced package, and each of those can be taken residential or non-residential. Residential students stay in private single en-suite rooms in University of London halls, with breakfast and dinner, an evening and weekend activity programme and round-the-clock pastoral care. The two-week options carry the Level 3 Award in Work Experience and Career Planning, worth eight UCAS points, assessed online after the programme and followed by a personalised certificate and an industry reference letter.
