About

About the Course

Short stay students join existing tutor groups and mainstream lessons at Cobham Hall, an independent day and boarding school in Kent, and study alongside the school’s permanent pupils. The timetable combines ordinary school subjects with English as an Additional Language taught by the school’s own EAL specialists. The school opens the programme to students in any year group, from the first year of secondary school through the Sixth Form, and stays run from one week upwards during the school’s published terms.

What’s Included

One weekly fee covers tuition, food and accommodation, trips and activities, laundry, hire of uniform and sportswear, hire of bed linen, and the school’s standard programme of English as an Additional Language of two lessons a week. A deposit is payable alongside the fee and is listed under extras. Additional EAL lessons beyond the standard two are charged separately by the school and are quoted on application, as the number depends on the student’s level.

Accommodation

Students live in the school’s boarding houses together with the permanent boarders, which is where much of the day’s English actually happens. Bed linen is provided by the school and laundry is part of the weekly fee.

Meal Plan

Full board: all meals are provided by the school and are included in the weekly fee.

Activities & Excursions

From the first week students take part in the school’s co-curricular activities and its Saturday enrichment programme, and join trips and cultural visits to London attractions, theatres and theme parks alongside the permanent pupils.

Facilities

The programme runs on Cobham Hall’s own campus in Kent, between Gravesend and Rochester, with boarding houses on site. The school is within about an hour by car of Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow and London City airports, and ten minutes from Ebbsfleet International station.

Camp Experience

The point of the stay is ordinary school life rather than a holiday programme: lessons with British classmates, a boarding house in the evenings and weekends, and the school’s own events and enrichment. Just under thirty nationalities are represented in the student body, so an international student is not the only one finding their feet.

The fee covers the school’s standard programme of English as an Additional Language — two EAL lessons a week — taught by qualified EAL specialists alongside the mainstream timetable. Students who need more English than that can take additional EAL lessons on the school’s Intensive English Language Programme; the number depends on the student’s level and is charged separately by the school.

More about this camp

Cobham Hall is an independent day and boarding school in Cobham, Kent, between Gravesend and Rochester and within about an hour of four London airports. Its immersion programme places international students aged eleven to seventeen into the school’s ordinary timetable: they join existing tutor groups, study the same subjects as the permanent pupils and receive English as an Additional Language from the school’s own specialists. Students live in the boarding houses alongside permanent boarders, which is where most of the day’s conversation happens, and take part in co-curricular activities, the Saturday enrichment programme and school trips from their first week. The weekly fee covers tuition, meals, accommodation, trips and activities, laundry and hire of uniform, sportswear and bed linen. Just under thirty nationalities are represented at the school, and stays are arranged inside the school’s published term dates.
