About
About the Course
Fifteen hours of general English lessons a week, taught at Durham School and followed each afternoon by educational, social and cultural activities. Students receive an end-of-course progress certificate.
What’s Included
The camp is sold as an all-inclusive weekly fee. It covers the English lessons, full-board accommodation on site, the daily afternoon activity programme, evening activities, one full-day excursion for each week booked, the progress certificate and full travel and medical insurance. Courses are sold as two-week stays.
Accommodation
Students live on site at Durham School, a traditional British boarding school with modern facilities, ten minutes' walk from the centre of Durham. Accommodation is full board and is included in the camp fee.
Meal Plan
Full board is provided at the school and is included in the fee, so all meals are taken on site apart from those on excursion days.
Activities & Excursions
Afternoons and evenings are given over to activities: tours of Durham and its cathedral and museums, sports such as rowing, cricket and tennis, team building and games, arts and crafts, movie nights and parties, and a cruise on the river Durham. Each week includes one full-day excursion, with trips to Edinburgh, York, Alnwick Castle and the Lake District among the destinations.
Facilities
Durham School combines the buildings of a traditional boarding school with modern facilities, and students are accommodated, taught and fed on the same site.
Camp Experience
Durham is the most compact city in the United Kingdom and is sometimes called the Cambridge of the North. Durham Cathedral and the neighbouring castle form a UNESCO World Heritage Site above the river. The city is less than three hours from London, two hours from Edinburgh and twelve minutes by train from Newcastle, so weekend excursions reach a wide part of northern England and the Scottish border country.
