About

About the Course

Campers choose their own programme. On arrival each girl picks five activities and the schedule is built around her top choice, so she does her favourite most often; first-time campers try each activity before signing up, and anyone staying four weeks or longer can change activities at the midpoint of her stay. More than twenty activities are on offer — swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, waterskiing, surfing, tennis, field sports, horseback riding, archery, riflery, dance, theatre arts, ceramics, crafts, knitting and stained glass. Skill levels are built into each activity, and reaching the next one is marked with an award at campfire. A separate Counselor in Training Program takes girls entering the last two years of school, by application.

What’s Included

One tuition covers the session: accommodation in a cabin or platform tent, all meals and the full activity programme. Sessions run from two weeks for first-time campers up to the full summer. The camp is unplugged — hand-held games and mobile phones are not allowed, and girls write home at least once a week.

Accommodation

Girls live by age group. Eight to ten year olds are in the Junior Unit, in a cabin with limited electricity and a bathroom, shared with four or five other girls plus at least one staff member and a counsellor-in-training. Eleven to thirteen year olds are the Mid unit and live with three or four girls their age, one counsellor and a counsellor-in-training: younger Mids in cabins with electricity, older Mids in platform tents, with a nearby bathhouse — the WOG — with electricity, hot showers and flushing toilets. All Senior campers live in platform tents.

Meal Plan

All meals are included. Each week campers are assigned to a table where they sit with a counsellor in a multi-age setting, and meals come with shared conversation and traditional camp songs. Alongside the main entree and side dishes the dining hall sets out a salad bar for lunch and dinner, a yogurt and oatmeal bar at breakfast and a pasta bar at lunch, with dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Activities & Excursions

Waterfront activities on Laurel Lake include swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, waterskiing and surfing. On land there are tennis, field sports, horseback riding, archery and riflery. The arts side covers dance, theatre arts, ceramics, crafts, knitting and stained glass. Wednesdays and Sundays carry special programming: a camp-wide activity, unique choice activities or excursions.

Facilities

The camp sits on the shores of Laurel Lake with a waterfront, playing fields, tennis courts, a riding programme, a dining hall, the Barn where mail is handed out, cabins and platform tents by unit, and bathhouses with hot showers and flushing toilets.
