More about this camp

The ELAC Horsham Summer Centre delivers the ELAC Discovery Programme at Christ's Hospital School, a traditional boarding school set in the West Sussex countryside south of London. Programme and activities. The Discovery Programme combines English lessons with skills development, creative and physical activities, evening entertainment and educational excursions. The campus is large and self-contained, so much of the programme runs on site. An unusual practical detail: the school has its own railway station. For a boarding-school campus in the countryside, direct rail access is genuinely rare and simplifies both arrival and day excursions, since students are not dependent on coach transfers to reach the network. Accommodation. Students are accommodated on site in five boarding houses, with single, twin, triple and quad rooms, shared bathroom facilities and access to communal areas. The spread from single to quad is wide, so families with a preference should ask what will be allocated and whether a single carries a supplement. Ages, dates and duration. The centre accepts students aged 11 to 17. Three sessions are listed, beginning in early July — fewer start dates than most of ELAC's other centres, so families with fixed holiday windows should check availability early. Location and travel. Christ's Hospital is near Horsham in West Sussex, around an hour from London by train and close to Gatwick, which makes it straightforward for international families. The campus's own station connects directly. Who the programme may suit. This centre may suit families who want a historic English boarding-school campus with easy travel in and out, and students who would value the countryside setting without feeling stranded. The rail link is a practical advantage over comparably rural centres. Families needing more choice of dates should look at ELAC's Eastbourne, Cirencester, Nottingham or Bath centres, all of which list five sessions.
