A forward-looking academic enrichment course at Caterham School in Surrey for students aged 11-17, designed to develop critical thinking, confidence and the skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. In the Oracy week students take part in a Model UN or a mock trial at the Caterham Bar, researching, preparing and arguing a case. In the EDGE week they work through practical challenges, leadership activities and collaborative workshops, explore the possibilities and ethical implications of artificial intelligence, and finish with a team project that uses AI tools to answer a real local or community problem. A minimum B1/B2 English level is required. Residential and day places are available on the school campus, 40 minutes from Heathrow and central London.

About

About the Course

Courses are designed and delivered by Caterham School teachers and specialist coaches. The academic courses are built around a two-week experience, and a single week can be taken on its own. Programmes can be combined for a longer stay, and EAL can be combined with an academic course subject to the minimum English level required for it.

What’s Included

The fee covers accommodation, lessons, excursions, airport and train transfers within the advertised arrival and departure times, laundry, course books and materials, and all sports and activities. Residential and day places are both available. A non-refundable application fee applies as part of the application process and includes assessment and interview; a non-refundable deposit secures the place.

Accommodation

Boarding students stay in Caterham School boarding houses, with rooms arranged by age: single, twin or triple ensuite rooms for older students, and twin, triple or small dorm-style rooms for younger students. Boarding houses are divided into separate accommodation for boys and girls. Residential staff live on site and provide 24-hour supervision.

Meal Plan

Residential students receive three freshly prepared meals a day, cooked on site, with a menu that mixes international dishes and familiar favourites, a weekly barbecue or street-food style meal, and healthy snacks through the day. Dietary needs are fully accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, halal and allergies. Day students receive a freshly prepared lunch and snacks.

Activities & Excursions

Every programme includes a full activity and excursion programme: sports, creative workshops and team challenges, football academy coaching from Crystal Palace Football Club, and access to the WildCats Adventure Course. Each week includes two full-day excursions plus local activities, and students also visit a water sports centre for kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing.

Facilities

The programme runs on the Caterham School campus in the Surrey countryside, using the school classrooms, sports facilities and boarding houses. Students can add a specialist Sports Academy, with options including football in partnership with Palace for Life, hockey, netball, rugby, cricket and rackets, led by the school coaching team.

Camp Experience

A genuine boarding school experience rather than a summer school that merely occupies a boarding school. Students come from the UK and around the world, which makes the community international and the cultural exchange part of the course. Pastoral care includes a dedicated welfare team, structured routines, and a Summer School Matron. Excursions have included Thorpe Park, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, Brighton, and Cambridge or Oxford.

More about this camp

The Oracy half of the course puts students into a Model UN session or a mock trial at the Caterham Bar. They research a position, prepare a case, and then argue it live against competing viewpoints, which is where the speaking, listening and persuasion work actually happens rather than being described in a handout. The EDGE half comes from Caterham School own innovation and digital curriculum. Students work through practical challenges, leadership activities and collaborative workshops, and spend part of the week on artificial intelligence: what it can do, where it fails, and what using it responsibly looks like. The week ends with a team project in which students use what they have learned, AI tools included, to propose a solution to a real local or community problem. Students live in the school boarding houses with staff on site around the clock, or attend as day students. Three meals a day are cooked on site, every week carries two full-day excursions, and the activity programme runs from sports and creative workshops to football coaching with Crystal Palace Football Club and the school adventure course. The fee covers accommodation, lessons, excursions, transfers within the advertised times, laundry, books and all sports and activities.
