Cuffley is 96 acres of ancient woodland ten minutes from Potters Bar, designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and easily reached from London and the M25. Camp Wilderness runs the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award here: a five-day stay with high ropes, climbing, archery, orienteering and bushcraft on site. Participants live and work alongside people they have not met before, which is the point of the Gold residential. Accommodation is in the recently renovated Woodland Lodge, meals are cooked on site across four kitchens, and qualified instructors lead every technical activity.

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential is a five-day stay in Hertfordshire woodland. Participants take part in adventurous activities with qualified instructors while sharing camp life with people outside their usual social circle, which is what the Gold residential section asks for. The programme supports confidence, independence, resilience and teamwork.
Instructor-led activity sessions use the 96-acre woodland site to build practical outdoor skills and personal confidence. Sessions can include high ropes, low ropes, climbing wall, zip line, archery, orienteering, night line, problem solving, team challenges and bushcraft. Staff provide technical instruction, supervision and support appropriate to the group and the activity. The residential setting asks participants to work with unfamiliar peers, communicate clearly and contribute to group life. Reflection after activities helps them recognise progress and take confidence from meeting outdoor challenges.
Woodland adventure, independence, teamwork and personal resilience.
