About

About the Course

Four hours of English a day, Monday to Friday, in classes of no more than fourteen students. The school teaches from elementary to advanced level and places students by level on arrival. Afternoon drama classes prepare a short performance that every class gives to the rest of the school on the final day, and each student leaves with a certificate stating the level they reached.

What’s Included

The course fee covers tuition, accommodation on full board, the activity and excursion programme, and laundry. Airport transfers from Heathrow and Stansted are included on the published conditions. A registration fee is charged separately, and is listed under extras.

Accommodation

Students choose between a homestay and a hall of residence. Homestays are inspected by the school's own Accommodation Officer, lie about three to five kilometres from the school, roughly thirty to forty-five minutes by bus, and offer twin or triple rooms. Residences are supervised halls within a ten to twenty-five minute walk of the school, with single or twin rooms, boys and girls on separate floors, live-in House Managers, bed linen provided and a student common room with WiFi in each building. Twin rooms in residence are limited on this course. Students aged sixteen or over may be placed in a private home hosting more than four students; the school asks families to say in advance if they would rather not be.

Meal Plan

Full board in both homestay and residence: breakfast, a packed lunch and an evening meal every day.

Activities & Excursions

An activity programme runs every afternoon and evening, and on Saturday the whole school takes a full day trip to London with time to see the sights and to shop. Students on the English Plus and English Plus Football courses join the same activities and stay in the same accommodation.

Facilities

The course is held at St Andrew's College on Station Road in Cambridge, a ten minute walk from the city centre and from the university buildings, shops and restaurants.

Camp Experience

Cambridge is a university city small enough to walk across and busy enough that there is always something going on. Students live and study among classmates of many nationalities, which the school balances deliberately when it allocates rooms, and spend their free time in the same streets and colleges the city is known for.

More about this camp

Select English runs its Cambridge Juniors course at St Andrew's College on Station Road, within walking distance of the colleges, museums, shops and restaurants that the city is known for. Teaching runs from elementary to advanced level, four hours a day from Monday to Friday, in classes capped at fourteen students, and the school balances nationalities deliberately so that students practise English outside the classroom as well as in it. Drama classes prepare a short performance that each class gives to the rest of the school at the end of the course, and every student receives a certificate stating the level they reached. Students live either with a host family in a twin or triple room, three to five kilometres from the school, or in one of the supervised halls of residence a ten to twenty-five minute walk away, in a single or twin room. Both options are full board, with breakfast, a packed lunch and an evening meal each day, and laundry is included. Residences have live-in House Managers, boys and girls on separate floors, bed linen provided and a student common room with WiFi. The activity programme runs every afternoon and evening and includes sports and games, craft activities, college and museum visits and punting on the River Cam, with a full day excursion to London on Saturdays and a half-day trip to Bury St Edmunds. Transfers from Heathrow and Stansted are included on the conditions the school publishes.
