British Youth Music Theatre’s Shropshire Summer Camp brings young performers aged 11–17 to Oswestry School for six days of musical theatre making. With no audition required, the company devises and performs a brand-new musical with a professional artistic team, earning an accredited Grade 6 Certificate in Musical Theatre.

About the Course
Over six days participants devise, rehearse and perform a brand-new musical — “Itchybald Scratchet and the Buried Treasure”, a magical environmental musical by composer Ruth Chan and writer Vanessa Oakes — suggested by inspiring theatre professionals and developed with the young company’s own ideas. Training covers acting, singing, movement, improvisation, lyric writing and instrumental playing, ending with a public showcase assessed by Mountview Exams examiners for a Grade 6 Certificate in Musical Theatre.
What’s Included
The residential fee is £780 for domestic (British/Irish taxpayer) students and £880 for overseas students, covering full board accommodation, tuition, 24-hour pastoral care and two showcase tickets. BYMT camps are heavily subsidised by Arts Council England, and deposit and instalment plans are available.
Accommodation
Participants stay on site at Oswestry School in Oswestry, Shropshire, living in boarding school accommodation with 24-hour pastoral care from the BYMT team.
Meal Plan
Full board is included for residential participants, with plenty of food provided throughout the six-day camp.
Activities & Excursions
The camp centres on making a new musical together: company rehearsals, ensemble singing and movement, writing sessions and instrumental playing, culminating in a final performance for family and friends.
Facilities
The camp uses the performance and boarding facilities of Oswestry School, an independent school campus in Oswestry, Shropshire.

BYMT camps mix young people from different backgrounds who share a love of musical theatre. With no audition required, everyone takes part in creating a world-premiere musical, building confidence, teamwork and lasting friendships — many participants return year after year.

British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) is a UK charity creating new musical theatre with young people aged 11–17. Its six-day residential summer camps, heavily subsidised by Arts Council England, need no audition: participants devise and perform a brand-new musical with professional theatre directors, composers and writers, and receive a Grade 6 Certificate in Musical Theatre accredited by Mountview Exams.
