Summer Arts Academy
We'll let you know when this camp adds new dates.
A two-week residential summer course at Arts University Bournemouth, on the university's own campus at Fern Barrow between Poole and Bournemouth. Students pick one subject and stay with it for the fortnight, working in the university's studios and workshops with its own staff and industry-standard equipment. The stated aim is a portfolio: the course ends with pre-application reviews, where tutors give feedback on the student's work and can offer a place at AUB on the spot. Teaching runs weekdays with one Saturday session; the residential package adds accommodation on campus and catering, and an optional package adds airport transfers. Subjects on offer cover animation, architecture, commercial photography, art and design, fashion, textiles and costume design, filmmaking and games art, with a separate Summer Arts Academy for younger students.

About
About the Course
Students choose one subject and stay with it for the whole fortnight, working in the university's own studios and workshops with its staff and industry-standard equipment. Seven subjects are open to students aged 15 to 18 — animation, architecture, commercial photography, art and design, fashion and costume, filmmaking and games art — and a separate Summer Arts Academy runs on the same campus and in the same fortnight for ages 13 to 14. The course is built toward a portfolio and ends with a pre-application review, where tutors give feedback on the work and can offer a place at AUB.
What’s Included
The card shows the residential package, which covers tuition, accommodation on the AUB campus and catering. The university also sells the course without accommodation, for students who live locally; it publishes that as a separate package total rather than as a deduction, so this card does not carry it. The university's third variant of the residential package adds return airport transfers, and that one is carried here as a paid option under Extras, so it can be added to the residential package on this card. A deposit of a quarter of the package secures a place, with the balance due later.
Accommodation
Students live on the university's own campus at Fern Barrow for the fortnight, arriving the Sunday before teaching starts and leaving the Saturday after it ends. The residential package the university sells alongside the course fee covers that accommodation together with full-board catering.
Meal Plan
Catering is part of the residential package. The university states that the package covers accommodation and catering together and does not break the meals down further on the course pages.
Activities & Excursions
The fortnight is built around studio practice in the chosen subject rather than a general activity programme. Teaching runs weekdays from nine to five with one Saturday session, and students work across the university's studios, workshops and technical facilities.
Facilities
Teaching happens in the university's own studios and workshops, with the technical equipment its degree students use — the course pages describe industry-standard facilities across animation, photography, fashion and costume, film and games. Students live on the same campus.
Camp Experience
AUB presents the fortnight as a taste of being one of its students: living on campus, working in its studios and being taught by its staff. The closing pre-application review is the point of it — tutors look at what the student has made over the two weeks, give feedback on the portfolio, and can offer a place at the university on the strength of it.
