More about this camp

Alpadia English Summer Camp in London is run by Alpadia Language Schools, part of Kaplan International, from a campus in New Cross, in the south-east of London. It is a residential camp, and unlike the provider's other UK centres it is restricted to students aged 14 to 17. Programme and activities. The course listed is English Standard 20 — twenty lessons per week — taught by native teachers in small classes, combined with a full activity and excursion programme. Being in London, the excursion programme has direct access to the city rather than needing coach travel to reach a major centre, which is the main practical difference between this camp and the provider's countryside campuses. Accommodation and supervision. Students stay in onsite residence accommodation on the London campus, in supervised rooms, with lessons, activities and facilities on the same site and 24/7 supervision in place. Ages, dates and duration. The camp accepts students aged 14 to 17 only. This narrower, older band is worth noting for families comparing Alpadia centres: a 12-year-old eligible for Ardingly, Brighton or Woldingham cannot attend here. Arrival dates begin in early July; those currently open appear in the session list on this page. Location and travel. New Cross is in the London Borough of Lewisham, in south-east London, with rail connections into central London. All the major London airports are reachable, though journey times vary considerably between them. Transfer arrangements are not published as part of the standard package and should be confirmed with the provider. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit older teenagers for whom being in London is part of the appeal, and who are ready for a city environment rather than an enclosed rural campus. It may also suit students combining language study with university visits, given the age group. Families with younger children, or those who would prefer a quieter setting, should look at the provider's Ardingly, Brighton or Woldingham centres instead.
