More about this camp

Alpadia English Summer Camp in Torquay is run by Alpadia Language Schools, part of Kaplan International, from a location on Castle Road in Torquay, on the south coast of Devon in south-west England. Programme and activities. Students take English lessons with native teachers in small classes, alongside an activity and excursion programme. Torquay sits on the stretch of Devon coastline known for its palm-lined beaches and sea views, so the programme has ready access to outdoor and coastal activity without long coach journeys. Accommodation and meals. This centre uses homestay accommodation: students live with English-speaking host families in twin rooms with shared bathrooms. As with the provider's Bath centre, this differs materially from its residential campuses — students travel between the host family and the school each day, and evenings are spent with the family rather than under continuous school supervision. Meal arrangements and typical travel times from host family to school should be confirmed with the provider before booking. Ages, dates and duration. The camp accepts students aged 12 to 17, a higher minimum than the residential campuses, consistent with the independence the homestay format requires. Arrival dates begin in early June, considerably earlier than most UK summer programmes, which can suit families whose school year finishes early. Currently open dates are listed in the session block on this page. Location and travel. Torquay is in Devon, in south-west England, part of the area known as the English Riviera. Exeter and Bristol are the nearest airports, and rail connections run from London. Transfer arrangements are not published as part of the standard package and should be requested directly. Who the programme may suit. This course may suit teenagers who are comfortable travelling daily on their own and who would value living in a British household, in a quieter seaside town rather than a city. It may suit less well families seeking on-site supervision around the clock, or those with a child under 12, in which case the provider's residential centres at Ardingly, Brighton or Woldingham are the relevant comparison.
