A residential summer school in central London for students aged 13 to 17, run by Academic Summer at its host school DLD College, Westminster, directly opposite the Houses of Parliament and overlooking the Thames. Teaching follows a project-based CLIL approach in which English is learned through real subjects and the city itself is used as material. Residential students live in single en-suite rooms on the college campus; the weekly fee covers tuition, teaching materials, accommodation, meals, insurance, airport transfers, trips and activities.

About

About the Course

Teaching follows a project-based CLIL approach — Content and Language Integrated Learning — in which English is not studied as a subject on its own but used as the medium for real subject work, critical thinking and creative projects. The city supplies the material: what students study connects to what is around them in Westminster and central London. The school presents the aim as study skills and life skills alongside language, and students arrive from more than sixty countries, so English is the working language of the group outside lessons as well as in them.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount — ask us for details. The fee is published per week, and the programme is sold by the week for a stay of any length within the season. It covers tuition, teaching materials, accommodation in a single en-suite room on the college campus, meals, insurance, airport transfers, and the trips and activities of the leisure programme. A day-student version of the same programme is sold separately at a lower weekly fee and for a wider age range, without accommodation.

Accommodation

Residential students aged thirteen to seventeen live on the DLD College campus in single en-suite rooms, which the school describes as a private and secure base in the centre of London. The college is purpose-built and the accommodation sits in the same building as the teaching rooms.

Meal Plan

Meals are included in the published weekly fee and taken at the college.

Activities & Excursions

Trips and activities are included in the fee and form the leisure programme. Because the campus sits opposite the Houses of Parliament and beside the river, much of the programme is within walking distance: the school names the London Eye, the Palace of Westminster and the Elizabeth Tower, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace among the landmarks reachable on foot.

Facilities

The programme runs at DLD College in Westminster, a purpose-built school building that houses both the teaching rooms and the residential accommodation, directly opposite the Houses of Parliament and overlooking the River Thames.

Camp Experience

The school has used DLD College as its London base for around a decade. The pitch is that students are in London rather than near it, and that the location is part of the teaching rather than a backdrop to it.

More about this camp

Experience London is the immersive city programme of Academic Summer: project-based, cross-curricular, and built so that what students study connects to the city they are living in. The school publishes fifteen hours of learning a week, delivered through CLIL — Content and Language Integrated Learning — so English is the medium for subject work, critical thinking and creative projects rather than a subject studied on its own. Students arrive from more than sixty countries, which makes English the working language of the group outside lessons as well as inside them. The base is DLD College, a purpose-built school in Westminster that the operator has used as its London home for around a decade. Accommodation and classrooms share the same building, and residential students aged thirteen to seventeen have single en-suite rooms. Day students are taken from age seven on a separately sold version of the programme. Trips are daily and tied to the week’s themes: the British Museum, Tate Modern, Madame Tussauds, Camden Market, the London Eye, Battersea Power Station and Notting Hill are among the destinations the school names. Saturdays are full-day trips further afield to Oxford, Cambridge, Hastings or Brighton, and Sundays bring more of London, such as Greenwich or a hop-on hop-off bus tour. The weekly fee covers tuition, teaching materials, accommodation, meals, insurance, airport transfers, and the trips and activities of the leisure programme.
